That's above my price range, as well, but you just gave me an incentive to think about getting another set of 27x1-3/8" knobbies for the UO-8, which makes a pretty decent trailblazer.

My UO-8 got ripped off several years back but I was impressed by how fat a tire it could take. I built up a set of 700 c wheels and rode 700 x 38c tires on that bike.

I've been looking at MTB/road bikes like this as well. I'm thinking about picking up the Velo Orange Piolet. The price is good as are the specs. .

Nice bike. A pricey n+1 is not in my future right now.

It makes me think a drop bar conversion on my old rigid Trek 850 would be a good idea though.
