Finally, I have found an old bike appropriate for 50+.

Just acquired a 1963 Gitane. I will post picture in the next few days along with some research. Looks good except missing the rear fender. It will need a lot of work and I am thinking of repainting if I can find some decals for it.

She is a beauty, the best ever in my Kijiji search for vintage bicycles. The place I bought her from is pretty creepy which I will include when I publish everything I know.

I am quite curious what makes the Gitane appropriate for a mature audience.

Why a repaint if it's the best you've ever found?

We should have a thread on 50 plus called "old bikes for old geezers, . I love my 1960 Olmo gran sport (she's a beauty) and I make sure to take her on an age appropriate ride (50 miles or so) right around my birthday.

It's old like us. I still haven't found a bike that is older than me. I just brought it in from the car. I will have some pictures later today.

At 61 I know I have plenty of patina & I don't mind it on my vintage bikes.

I have two Rollfasts that predate me and a '51 I'm working on getting would be three out of four. Next time a SHELBY.

I dream of having a 50's road racer with suicide lever shifters. Seeing pictures of the riders reaching down and back to shift gives me wild thoughts.

Why call it "for old geezers?"

Yikes, no kidding right?

My birthday's coming up (52nd), and my wife asked what I thought of the new Garmin Varia Vision, with safety in mind - the HUD is projected onto your sunglasses instead of having to look down at your GPS on the handlebar/stem. Hmm, I think I can still safely glance down at my GPS without crashing the bike.

Hah. Still I'm thinking it would be a fun thread. I'm curious how many in 50 plus have 50 plus year old bikes. I just need a catchy title for the thread. . . .

I posted a Condor from ebay with Cambio Corsa suicide shifter on The CABE and my friend who also posts on our forum almost bought the Pecorari that I also linked to, but had a different project in the mill.
Here's the thread on The CABE https://thecabe.com/forum/threads/eba...shifter.91175/

This guy makes it look easy.

I have a 1967 Peugeot PX-10, but it's not built. So, not quite a bicycle!

Back to the geezers: A lot of us here in the forum are just as able to ride and enjoy a vintage performance bike as we ever were (except in some cases, for speed), and also ride and enjoy performance bikes of much more recent times. There are pleasures in those machines that do not require racing speeds to be appreciated. The term suggests the opposite.

My oldest rides are the '76 Fuji (The Finest) and the '77 Colnago. Not even close to the 50+ cut.

I have two bicycles that are well into the 50+ camp, plus another that is less than 5 years away (see signature). (That maroon Brooks Team Pro saddle is admittedly new, however.) Toeclips and non-indexed gear change (either downtube friction or barcon ratchet) are quite age-appropriate for many of us.

Honestly I think you're taking that term a little too hard. I meant it tongue in cheek. There are some pretty fit people on this forum and I think it's great that we're out there riding regardless of age and speed.

I couldn't think of a good title so this will have to do, https://www.bikeforums.net/fifty-plus...-50-crowd.html

Looking forward to seeing your '67 Pug since it will be 50 tomorrow; I love the old Peugeot PX 10s, those are really beautiful bikes.

Maybe @Phloom will finally post a pic of his '63 Gitane on that thread, .
