Unpadded or Lightly Padded Shorts/Bibs--Recommendations?

I am looking for recommendations of currently available unpadded or lightly padded shorts/bibs. I have been gaining mileage slowly and am noticing some discomfort. I have four seats I am working with, but would like to get to a less padded short in order to find the best combination (thinking my padded shorts may be part of the issue). Thanks for your assist.

I just recently bought my first pair of cycling shorts.

As I'm relatively recent to riding, I could not yet make 'the leap' to full spandex cycling shorts. But wanted padding and pockets.

I bought comfort cycling shorts from LL Bean. I think they were $49.95 on sale.

I've worn them about 10 times and they are comfortable so far.

Nice bike, that Domane you have, how do you like it ?

Look for triathlon shorts or swimsuits typically known as jammers.

Tri shorts will have a minimal pad while jammers will have no pad.

Two examples are below. The quality of both Zoot and Tyr are excellent.

I've been using lined but un-padded shorts for decades, when I go on multi month bike tours,
I fit my old Brooks team pro saddle which i got 30+ years ago.

Aero Tech Pro shorts have relatively thin padding -- look for the tan and black pad. Good value at $39 (occasionally discounted for a bit less). I've had a pair for a year, no real complaints (they're a bit shorter on the thigh than I'd like, but my thighs may be a bit disproportionately long).

Aero Tech also makes tri shorts with even thinner padding.

Kucharik is a custom maker offering a variety of pads and might sell a pair without any padding if the customer prefers. They also offer alterations to replace pads.

Usually I wear Champion boxer/briefs under baggies, no padding. My saddles already have enough padding. Extra padding just soaks up sweat and causes chafing.

Only problem is my baggy shorts snag my water bottles and cages on my road bike so I'm needing to wear the snug fitting Aero Tech shorts more often. I don't necessarily need the padding so I might try their tri-shorts.

Domane has been great so far. A smooth ride. Messing with saddle choice and shorts to relieve a little pressure...not unbearable, but I want to get some higher mileage rides. As I am not a high speed guy, more mileage means longer and longer saddle time.

Thanks to all for your inputs. 👍🏻

Boure's pro chamois is thin, they also have a thicker option. Bibs are well made and customer service is excellent.

Boure is the only maker I've found who have progressively thinner padding as their prices go up. They guarantee their stuff unconditionally. All other makers who talk about pad thickness seem to say that thicker pads are made for longer rides.

Take a look at J&G touring shorts.
Lightly padded, comfortable, long wearing, non bike looking and reasonable $.

I stocked up on Pearl Izumi running tight shorts as they were being discontinued. The last few pair came from Bike24/Germany.
I like them because there is no chamois, pad, whatever. Replacements when I am due???

Unpadded lycra shorts are easy. Buy a pair of lycra cycling shorts, take out the pad. Or, you can find lycra running shorts. The running shorts tend to be shorter in the back though. Not quite plumber's crack territory, but they may gap some.

I recently picked up some Reebok training shorts that are really comfortable. I bought them one size smaller because they are very elastic and the legs were longer than I wanted. Reebok has some nice styles that don't look too "jockish."
