Hope that got your attention!

We have had a 50+ forum for a couple of years now.

Is there a need for a 65+ forum or thread?

Are the needs of folks 65+ different enough from the needs of those 50+ to warrant separate postings?

I notice that recently almost all folks newly posting are close to 50, but they generally consider themselves to be quite old, "handling" themselves with words including "old" in some part of the handle, or making statements like "older" in their introductory statements. Yet, they seem like youngsters to me.

Perhaps we should start a thread for 65+ and see if anyone posts to it?

Waiting with curiosity for brick bats and cat calls.

There is enuf emphasis on "separateness", why create more?. Can't we all continue to be 'Riders'

I agree that there is no valid need to further seperate the ages. If you are 50+ then you are middle
age and up.

Why make age any more of an issue?? We are all cyclist here........aren't we??

Currently there are at least 34 forums plus 4 sub forums for a total of 38 discussion groups, plus uncountable (almost) specialized threads such as the "Aussie" thread, the "Rockies Ride" thread, etc., etc.. Groups such as the BMX Forum are almost all younger folks.

There are tens of thousands of members and thousands of active participants.

Can't we all just be "riders?" How about just one HUGE forum?

I thought the Clydesdale forum idea was a good one, but it never got launched because the mods thought there were too few people to support it, yet the Alt Bike Culture and Living Car Free forums (fora?) sure don't have many threads. I don't see a need for a 65+ forum, IMHO.

I hope all of us in our 50's and referring to ourselves as old hasn't got you feeling really old DnvrFox. If there were not a 50+ category I would be in touring, road, training & Nutrition, and in each I would refer to myself as old.

I think it is because for a cyclist I consider myself to be older. I am certainly older than everyone I see at my LBS except for the shop owner
Besides, if there were a 65+ forum I would miss hearing from the older guys I enjoy so much now in this forum.

Agreed. I see no point in splintering more.

The car free is actually pretty active, the alt bikes is one of those forums that just didnt pan out and the clydes is not going to happen, are we going to start seperating ourselves by race, different weight categories (because clydes are still lightweights), leg size, intelligence.

And to expand how many more times can we dilute topics. Split further down some very fine lines. Sorry dnvr somewhere the diluting has to stop. There can likely be a couple of more options out front but I don't see diluting the age groups. Then people would want a 12 to 18, 19 to 25 (because 26 year olds ride differently that 25 year olds and have different needs) 26 - 31, 32- well you get the idea.

Brick bat: Brick bat . I think we all benefit from hearing from the over 65 crowd. I know it makes me feel like I will be riding forever when I read about their exploits.

Okay, I will give up here.

If the 50 yo's will stop calling themselve "old" or "geezers" or "at the end of the line" or whatever, I will stop pushing the 65+ fourm. Everytime I read those words from a 50+r, I think, "If the 50's guys think they are old, what does that make me!"

Just a bit of exploration today.

You all have a great day. Took us 3 hours to get from the San Francisco Airport to Marin County. I got stopped by a motorcycle cop for driving too safely. Seems it isn't de rigeur to stop for a fellow in a wheelchair half way across the street you are turning into. Cop told me to "Forget the wheelchair guy," and just keep driving!!

It makes you young dnv. At some point you have to realize the ole term, "you're as young as you feel" really does apply, sometimes, 50 year olds are 65 .
