head on or **** happens
on my way to a training ride, my car went out of control (no steering no brakes) on a wet and oily road. unfortunately another car was coming the opposite direction and he couldn't make out my distress so we collided head on. i thank my lucky stars that we all came out of this in one piece. my car was totalled, the other guy had a heavy jeep and his car was in better shape. we were shuttled to the local hospital and thank god everything checked out clean. except for some bruises, minor abraisons some aches and pains everything seems to be in tact. my bike, which was in the back seat, seems to be ok.
I'm going to have to work up my confidence in the 4 wheels after this episode.
Looking forward to getting in the saddle again when the aches and pains subside.
Take care and happy riding

Take care especially yourself Berts.....such things are beyond control but Grace was granted to you and the other fellow today. As seen in the occasional postings here, people have close calls in real life....fortunately you and others on this board have come through well. Guess, at least for now, we all have more roads to ride. Glad to hear your "good" news.

A second thought:
I'm mostly of the belief that we control most of our own destiny. When I read something like this, it makes me realize that fate also will play a hand.
While I won't let this impact my way of living, I never want to leave my house on bad terms with anyone. I really want them to always feel the love.

Glad everyone is okay!! That has to be a really scary situation for everyone involved.
Man, good lesson for us cyclists as well to be on the lookout for vehicles that not under control after the first rains. Abort!! Abort!! Another lesson for the road.
Thanks for sharing.

The first rain is a big problem here in California also. Since we usually get little or no rain from May until November alot of oil gets dripped onto the road. The first rain or even a heavy fog will make the road as slipperey as ice. It's kind of like driving in snow. Once you know how it shouldn't be a problem for you. Just slow down and take it easy. Glad to hear every one came out OK.

Thank you all for your well wishes. This forum has served as a source of inspiration, helpful advice and comfort all for which I am grateful to all.
God, give us grace to accept with serenity the things that cannot be changed, courage to change the things which should be changed, and the wisdom to distinguish
the one from the other.
