At 54, My First Century at the LAF RftR

Hooray!!! Only in my third year of riding, but yesterday, at 54 years, I did my first century at the Lance Armstrong Foundation Ride for the Roses here in Austin. I rode 101 miles in 6 hours 12 minutes, averaging about 16.25mph. It was a beautiful day for a bike ride with Lance and about 6,500 of his closest cycling buds. The ride was a celebration of the LAF Peloton Project reaching it goal of raising $7,000,000.00!

For all of you like me who are getting into this sport of road cycling at an age a little past our prime, you can do, just get out there and do it. If I can do it, you can do it. Ride On!

Congratulations! Super accomplishment!!

I'm hoping to do a century perhaps next Spring. I did a metric century this month to celebrate my birthday. You're helping inspire me.

So, what did Lance have to say?

Congrats!! I've done both a "road and off-road" Metric Century this year, maybe I'll branch out next year and get in a Full Century, just gota find the "perfect beginner ride century" for that next 100 miler as the last one was in 1984!! :O

If more of us "old folks" had a Colnago to do it on, we might be riding centuries every day.
