First snow of the season

After 18 days of rain (well there was one day in there that it didn't) we're finally getting our first snowfall of the season ( boys and girls, can you spell depressed?). As I write this, everything outside my window is covered with a light blanket of white and we're expecting 1-2 inches. So since Columbus day, I've been able to take one bike ride.
The trails are way too wet for mountain biking and it's too cold and dangerously wet on the roads for road riding. Maybe I'm just a wuss. I used to love New England.
Am I the only one in such a funk?

It was 68 today, not a cloud in the sky, and I went for a lovely 24 mile ride.

Come join us in sunny Colorado!

Sorry about your weather. I would be depressed also.

At my age? Maybe my initials. Then again, with my luck I'll probably end up peeing on my shoe. Or did you mean write with a stick?

My condolences to you, but better there than here right now. We'll probably get some of that too in late Dec/Jan. That's one of the reason's that I left the northeast (NY) 13 years ago.
It's starting to cool down here in NC also but it's perfect biking/running weather.

I can relate. It's getting so darn chilly here, I have to wear a long-sleeved tee-shirt when I'm out on the bike. Geesh!

I thought at "our age" we had to "mark our territory" more often !!

Bad weather will get to anyone, even someone not itching to get out and ride. I can't imagine 18 days straight of rain and now snow. After just a couple of days out of the saddle I start going crazy

It's starting to slowly get cold up here in MN. Yesterday evening, it was 43 when we finished our ride. Considering November is almost here, that's pretty good. I just know that before too long, we'll be looking at every night on a stationary and only occasional treats of actually riding on the road.

I feel your pain, AJ!

Steve

Now this is one of the advantages of a mountain bike ridden off road. A little bit of snow just adds to the fun(not that we seem to have it in the Uk that much now). What we do get though are very slippery trails so I can appreciate the problem of the road rides. Get that white stuff on them and it will definitley be time to go to the Gym. The danger part though is Black ICE. You can't see it, it can occur anywhere and is often at the bottom of hills, on the bends, or on the camber of the high speed parts of a ride.

Talking about mild for the time of year- Nearly November and the leaves are falling off the trees. No change in colour- they seem to leave the tree green and hit the ground as brown. No good attractive reds or yellows so no good scenery to stand and gaze at at the top of the steep hills. Just have to keep riding to get out of the wind.

I'm an hour or two east of you AJ - no snow, but a little less than inviting.

On the other hand, once we "fall back" this weekend, I might have enough daylight to squeak in a ride or two before work. Otherwise, I'm at the mercy of the weekend weather; got some miles in last weekend but it was rather chilly.

It was a high of 65 here in Louisiana today and sunny! I rode my usual 20 miles, but wanted to ride more (darned work!). Light breeze, pretty lakes, and curvy roads. Wish you were here!

I'm trying not to take this weather too badly. The snow just got here so early that it shook me up a bit. Most of it has already melted (for now).
For a long time I've been thinking about winter mtn biking but as of yet have only been a fair weather biker. I'll have to try it this year.
If that doesn't work out, I hope you have room for a guest, Far.
I'd go riding in CA with Gary but all I have are short sleeves.
Well, I'm off,to mark my territory, again...............now where'd I leave that stick?

Just do like I do, hit the denial button - ignore the cold and snowy parts of the forecast and look for the warmer bits that usually crop up a day or two ahead - like highs in the lower 60s this Sunday and Monday. You're south of me so you must have some good cycling weather yet ahead. But "De Nile" is indeed more than a river in Africa and a damnable Canadian snowfall is around the corner. Hence the plan for the biking trip in Cuba!

You aren't alone are the only words of comfort I can give you....

ANOTHER beautiful day! 70 degrees, light breeze, blue skies - I rode today with my "pumpkin face" orange hard hat instead of a bike helmet. Got lots of grins!

Snow will eventually make an appearance here in southern Washington. It certainly is a depressing thought. I try to console myself by thinking of all the other cyclists in the same situation. This thread proves that we are not alone.

Some have it even worse than me!! Poor babies!

Spring will come.....

We in Southern Mass are expecting our first snow Sat. night. With the biggest game of the season in Gillette to boot. (pun unintended). The chance of the Revs getting 2 to advance, especially in the predicted Nor'Easter, is not looking good.

But we will all be riding on a beautiful halloween day trip.
