The Amgen is Coming! The Amgen is Coming!

California BF'ers....now's our chance to go out and share some of our tips with the professionals and cast a critical eye as they roll by. DG, you can drive to Redondo Beach or Thousand Oaks and catch them. I'm heading for S.F., San Jose, or Martinez. The Amgen is coming!

Check it out here: http://www.amgentourofcalifornia.com/

Thanks for the link - it is good to see that cycling is developing by leaps and bounds in the US, I am sure that this activity will have positive repercussions on the entire gamut of cyclists- along with increased petrol price, it might even encourage more to commute, creating a cleaner and friendlier environment.

You Californians are L U C K Y!! I checked the timing, and I'm stuck on the east coast that whole week. Look at the lineup of teams... CSC, T-Mobile, Disco, Phonak, Gerolsteiner, CA, and so on and so forth... this is gonna be a major bike race!

I'll be following it on the web to the extent possible, but if any of you left-coasters are fortunate enough to see a stage or two, please post your impressions! I'd love to share the experience, even if it's virtually/vicariously.

If I can beg, borrow or steal a digital camera, I'll post some pictures. Maybe me and Jan, or me and Dave Z................Jan's arm around me all smiles as I present him with the coveted BF FiftyPlus jersey. More likely you'll get my thumb over the lens.

If it turns out anyting like as good as the Tour de Georgia, y'all are in for a great week of racing. Go to the mountains for the best views. If you really want to experience the race fully, volunteer for the week. I served as a course marshal in the 2004 and 2005 TdG races and it was incredible!

jazzy_cyclist 01-24-06 11:38 AM

My understanding is that ESPN (or ESPN2) will have an hourly program after each stage.

Raket, keep your eye on the CSC team with their new carbon Cervelo bikes.

Some of the other guys here in San Diego are talking about converging on Redundant Beach for the last day of the Tour.

Hey Garfield, whereabouts within Huntington Beach are you located? I lived there for four years and graduated from then-new Marina High School (Valedictorian, 1968). Westminster Bike Shop didn't appreciate my low-end Bianchi, but the guy who owned the shop at Five Points said, "There's nothing wrong with that bike," as he led me back to see his two Specialissimas.

Please give a short summary for us Europeans after the stages (or some pictures), because I think we will not have any TV-pictures of that. Especially some pictures of CSC (Jens Voigt is my favourite rider).

:)!

CSC is the team to watch this year for a bunch of reasons. Basso, Julich, Sastre, Dave Z, O'Grady, Voigt... sheesh, these guys are loaded. It'll be interesting to see what team they field for the TofC. Julich, Zabriskie and Vande Velde are all Americans, so I expect we'll see all of them.

And yeah, on those sweet Cervelos!

Send in donations and I will gladly be the BF50+ correspondent traveling from stage to stage with my borrowed digital sending back local color, race photos, in-depth analysis, what I had for dinner, etc. A sort of older, more dignified Bob Roll. DG, can you put me up in SoCal?

Near 5 Points. I ride from there to Main Street to the Pier. Daugher was Valedictorian 2003. Old downtown H.B. near the Pier has changed and is still changing. Marina is still Division 1 but lacking in sports.

Stage 2 goes right thru my town, Moraga. Should be a good excuse to take a day off, but should I watch a steep uphill or a downhill? Suggestions?

Anyway, I may take some pictures for this guy.

sounds like fun! would be interesting to see a short 'Documentary' for each race day, presented by a 50+ forum member...
Oh, and I wanna see your version of Bob Roll doin the 'buck nekkid on the mag trainer' thing

as it stands I'll prolly record the daily ESPN broadcasts, edit and bring them down to DVD - prolly have a few copies for my personal use...
I'm in the middle of compiling edits of the 'Chasing Lance' Discovery series and then comes the big job - the TDF 05 daily stage broadcasts.

Definitely an uphill. Here's a shot of me watching a couple of guys on an uphill section in 2004.
