March.... in like a Lamb/Lion.

I looked out at the weather this morning.... 56 f, a few wispy high clouds warning of tomorrow's rain. I decided that today was a good day to try out my new wireless computer and a different route with a few hills. The idea was to keep my cadence up with a fixed gear on the hills. Should have paid attention to the part of the forecast that said "wind ENE 18-20 G 30". That's a lot of work for such a pretty day. I had an average cadence of only 63.... and that's with a maximum of 99 on the downhill parts. 20 miles in one hour and 28 minutes, 13.8 mph. Really like the computer. It's a Cateye Double Wireless CC-CD300DW.

At least it didn't rain.
I'm gonna go take a nap!

Beautiful day here in NC as well. It was a perfect day for riding with temps in the mid 70's and winds not too bad. So what did I do? After a 2 month layoff I went out and played golf. Enjoyed the 27 holes and maybe that can count as cross training.

Tomorrow is supposed to be even warmer but the winds are going to be 20-30........count me out for riding!!!

What's with this 90 degree stuff in Texas?????????

Will Rogers said "If you don't like the weather in Oklahoma wait an hour or walk a mile."
Today in eastern Oklahoma the record temperature went through the ceiling, 93 F. Couldn't ride today, maybe tomorrow. We had ice on the ground a 2 weeks ago.

Today in PA was okay, sunny and it got up into the 40's, but tomorrow (Thursday)they tell us to expect snow, sleet and rain. Gosh, it sounds like it's going to be a fun day.

O.K. you guys, rub it in .

Yesterday it was -19C at 7 a.m. when I put the dog out. It went up to -4C in the afternoon. There is at least 18 inches of snow on the ground and if the roads are bare and dry, they are covered with a nice coating of salt dust. It is forecast to drop to -14C tonight. The long range forecast promises a high of +3C by March 11th, so lay off will ya

I will be doing my riding on the trainer in front of the TV for a while. Trying to get ready for a cycling adventure in northern Virginia in April

The last two mornings here in the NC piedmont morning temp at 5:30 was about 57 - 60 degrees. It feels nice after riding in the 20's and 30's. Today I actually changed out of my winter riding stuff, what a treat. I feel for all of you who are further north, but spring seems to be coming here so I know it will be up there soon.

Doesn't matter what the temperature is like when you start- by the time you get a few miles under the belt you should be warm enough to enjoy any ride. Now learnt to wrap up warm enough for the conditions and have the 4 layers now ready before each ride, feet have two pairs of socks on, the gloves are chosen to what the thermometer says, and the ear band is ready if it drops below freezing. Only problem comes when we get to a cafe- All that clothing to take off so you don't start getting too warm before having to get dressed again for another warm up couple of miles.

Roll on summer when I can can lose 20 lbs instantly by not putting on all that extra clothing.

EDIT Can just imagine what some of your summer temperatures will be if you are up above 50 now- Don't enjoy riding in the high 90's

It was so lovely yesterday that I went on a mid-day ride for a long lunch break. Blue skies, slight breeze (~10 mph) and temps starting at 65 F and warming up to 71 F. Ran into another rider and had nice conversation for a good chunk of my 40 mile ride. Nice recovery ride day after hammering in the late afternoon the day before.

Northeast Ohio is facing the LION.
Yesterday's ride was dry and chilly. Temp at ride time was heading down to the low
30'sF, NICE.
Today, 32F rain, freezing rain, snow covered roads.
By the weekend low to mid 30s with sun and flurries. NICE.

In 2005, Portland airport reported 2 days above 90 in May, 4 in July and 5 in August. Next came September with a high of 85, then June at 82..... not all that hot here.

High 90's are very rare in north Florida. Even mid 90's are uncommon. 90 to 92 F as an afternoon high is the forecast for June through September though.
