OK, I confess.....

My ride today was longer, stronger and faster because of drug use. And I thank god for Ibuprofin.
Yesterday I did a metric century and came home to a wife set on a landscaping project. I only got out today due to drug use, and for the first 5 - 6 miles I thought I would have to turn back - but the leg muscles loosened up and I made the usual 25 mile loop.

Strange how the drugs we prefer change with age, isn't it...

I hate taking drugs, but have been on Ibuprofin and an anti-inflammatory for three months, since the cortisone wore off in my torn rotator cuff. If it weren't for those I wouldn't be riding much. The surgeon is gonna fix it on Thursday.

A true miracle drug if I've ever seen one.

Now tell us about all the other stuff you've consumed over the years.

Just a word of caution.
I have a significant other using Ibuprofen in heavy doses for years for pain in her spine. (Cancer repercussions) Now her kindneys are functioning at 20%. The doctors say it is the result of the Ibuprofen.
Her life is miserable now.

Sorry to hear about this, Will. But she's planning a bike touring trip together. You are one gritty couple!

I took a lot of ibuprofen years back while going through a bad time with one of knees, and had kdney problems as a result. So, I stopped the meds and got a bike. That was ten years ago. Now, my knee is fine, my kidneys are functioning, and I know "Digital Gee" via the Bike Forums.

Two out of three ain't bad!

Which reminds me, BP -- do you have any opinions regarding pressure cookers?

This should be a new thread in a different forum, but here goes...

I've found that for all my pressure cooker needs, the "Diego 3000" measures up against the competition!

The other perspective is that pain is put there for a reason, and disguising it (particularly with something non-chronic) is counter-productive and potentially leads to more severe injuries.

DG: As to pressure cookers, I find that just living in today's society is "pressure cooker" enough for me!

DG, if you don't wnat another thread moved - perhaps you do - you need to include in your titles and such references to 50+ and bicycling:

Bad way:

"Coffee machine recommendations sought"

Keep the thread in the 50+ Forum way:

"Coffee machine recommendations sought from those 50 and over who ride bicycles"

Bad way:

"do you have any opinions regarding pressure cookers?"

Keep the thread in the 50+ Forum way:

"do you have any opinions regarding pressure cookers from those 50 and over who ride bicycles?"

Remember, there are moderators just awaiting their chance to move a thread!

I only asked about pressure cookers to see if I could get Big Paulie to go off topic, which was way too easy. So, BP -- as you promise, I want my money back!

It's 5:26 am in San Diego and you are on the forums?

Have you changed from night owl to an early bird?

Thanks for your concern but luckily the significant other is NOT my wife.
I used the term to describe my Sponsor who signed for us to come to the USA. Obviously a very close relationship. That is why we know about the damaging effects of long term high doses of Ibuprofen.
BTW, like someone else posted, I got over a knee injury by using Vioxx and later Ibuprofen and spinning exercise. I hope it did not damage my kidneys and the Vioxx obviously did not kill me as it did some others.
