60@60: rode my birthday

Thanks to the forum for suggesting this way of marking a milestone. I rode into work (23 miles), then 9 miles at noon, and then 28 miles home. Passed through orange orchards, 2 lakes, a horse farm, farmland, developments, industrial area, a racetrack, and 15 miles of Pacific Ocean coast. Rode on residential streets, back roads with no shoulders, a freeway, bike paths, dirt paths, and the Pacific Coast Highway. I met a lady in her 70's planning a bike tour next year, a co-worker, and a visitor from Pasadena. My wife and kids are certain that I'm nuts, but proud nevertheless. I had a great birthday.

Splendid way to mark your b'day. Congratulations! However, the trouble with this is that the older you get the LONGER you have to ride. It was a lot easier to ride my age when I was, oh, 25...;)

Congrats and Happy Birthday!

Haooy Birthday! It sounds like it was a winner... with the Pacific Coast as a backdrop, I'm envious. :)

Congrats on marking the milestone - you're doing better than me at this stage, for sure. Sounds like a beautiful ride.

A very creative way to get in your intended mileage! Great stuff, Leucadian...

These birthday rides are a great way of showing people that we can still cut it. Well done on your ride, but I think we have to think of a handicap for those that have done it before. How about having the Party the night before with 1/10th of your age being consumed in pints of beer. That'll sort out the men from the boys- but for the tea-totallers amongst us- it is going to be hard.
