Reporters tend to get motel rooms every night..... not the typical RAGBRAI experience..... I'm not a camper so I don't ride RAGBRAI. If I could get a motel room every night, I'd ride it every year. The Des Moines Register first gets as many rooms as it needs, then releases the route to some press, then a few days later announces the route to the public.

For the record, I used no press privileges to get my motel rooms. Spent a long morning on the phone making reservations on the day the route was announced. Still wound up pretty far away in some of the overnight stops.

Because why? The Press had taken all of the Motel rooms in the imediate area.... It doesn't bother me... Shoot if I had the inside info I sure would use it to my advantage.... but you have to admit it it not the typical RAGRAIer that stays in a motel. They typically camp. I'm not a camper, so I don't do RAGBRAI. It wasn't a complaint, only a statement of facts. Skin is to thin around here.
Great report by the way..... I found it to be a fun read. Thanks for posting.

I'm guessing there was a little more press presence than usual this year. On TV this morning, I saw video of Lance eating coconut creme pie at a diner on a stop on this years RAGBRAI. He said he had done a whole lot of bike rides but he'd never seen anything like this ride.

Great article! It made me want to sign up for next year's RAGBRAI. Guess I better start racking up the miles.
