Mojo Slim

I have seen a couple of camera mounts pictured and explained on BF. Here's my (well, not entirely mine) simple version. It uses stuff we all have in those coffee cans out in the garage. It starts with a U-shaped pipe holder, a small piece of metal (aluminum in this case) with a couple of holes drilled in it and two bolts, one of which fits the tripod mount on a camera. When I find one, I will put a second wing-nut on the rear bolt, too. I added a little padding between the camera and the piece metal. You may recognize it as an extra helmet pad.

I have used it to take little 3 minute movies with my digital camera in movie-mode, but it can be used for stills, too. The movies won't win any academy awards, but they are fun to look at. So far, we've been doing downhills. It helps to have a couple of people riding in front of you. This weekend we have a club ride with lots of people. My camera happens to be a Canon Power Shot S1 IS, but, of course, any camera will do, including a movie camera of some sort.

This is insanely sensational! So simple, I think even I could do it. Now just to be clear, there's really only one bolt holding the camera mount to the handlebar, right? Because the other one goes into the camera?

(Do you see now why I don't do my own repairs???)

I think the movies would be a blast to make and see. Have to try this!

Did you also find that uploading the clip to the host site further degraded the video quality? They sure did with mine.
I was also thinking about shooting a little downhill clip this weekend. Still undecided where to mount the camera.....but will most likely mount it on the upper fork blade so part of the wheel will be in the picture.

Excellent simple design, mate. Allow me to suggest that you carry a shower cap
or some disposable bowl covers to use as quick cheap rain covers when needed.

I haven't really compard quality, but I think it does degrade a bit. It's hard to tell, since the original isn't great and there is still a whole lotta shakin' goin' on. It looked pretty good when we showed it directly from the camera on the TV.

Very good!!

I took 8-9 segments of video at the Time Trials at Lowes Motor Speedway last week and we hope to put those on the web site so folks can see what it's like to ride around the track. I held a camera in one hand and pedaled around the track and unfortunately it was pretty "bouncy". I tried it a few times and hopefully we have enough good segments that folks can watch without suffering from motion sickness.

I might have passed 2 people the whole time I was doing it. It was hard to ride one handed while trying to keep the camera as still as possible and get any speed at all..........

Aren't you concerned to what the vibration and bumps are doing to your camera?
Seems it could shorten its life span.

Nah....not particularly....most point & shoot digicams are cheap nowadays....
