Hi and intent

New here:
I just want to say hi and let you know that I am glad to be here. this is such an interesting site.
I have been away from cycling for a few years but intend to get back in in a big way. I am 52 years old, rather fit P.E. teacher with high cholesterol.
My goal is to save my money to buy a Rans Stratus XP and in the summer of 2008 I plan on riding from Humboldt county Ca (redwood country) to the Florida Keys. My doctor doesn't like the idea because it doesn't exercise the upper body.
The most exciting rides I have ever taken was in Philidelphia as a bike commuter and keeping up with traffic just out of the shipyard. What a blast.
Well thanks for the bandwith
Steven Jones

Would your doc rather have you exercise in the rocking chair?

Takes all kinds.

Also, you CAN exercise your upper body. Just get a theraband or two to go with you and use them 3-4 times per week. They are light and great.

Anyway, welcome, youngster!

It's important for us to continue to get young people on this forum, to maintain a group who can remember how to post threads. Post a picture of your bike, preferably in front of your garage door. What's your favorite flavor of pie?

A question......is blueberry cobbler or other reduced fat renditions of "pie" allowable in the Handbook, ByLaws, and MumboJumbo of the Bicycle Forums Fifty Plus Org. ??

Only if pie is not available- or not permitted. You have a lot of fun coming your way but for those of us that do not know it- What is a Rans Stratus XP? Pictures required -unless it is a nasty rash that you have. On the upper body exercise- That will still get more exercise than you are now doing. Perhaps he would like you to take up jogging- Even less upper body exercise and damages the legs, and the feet, and the knees and the brain.

I'm back:
Here is a web page with the Rans Strauts XP https://www.ransbikes.com/StratusXP.htm#

I'm not here to push recumbents but this will help me to ride longer and better.
I am really planning on this trip and looking forward to it.
Also, My doctor is against any bread, dairy, and red meat. I have been surviving on fish, chicken, sardines (not really a fish) and black beans with rabbit food.
I have a Rock Hopper with half the seat missing and in the past I rode a Schwin Mirada. The best bike I have ever owned. Still looking forward to the Stratus XP
As far as PIE goes. We have these wondeful Hymalaya (sp) berries that make the absolute best Pie you will find. Then any fruit pie beats ANY other desert around. And no, "cream Pies" are not really a pie.
