I scored 16, so I am barely older than dirt.

Then there are some things that when you move across country, you never get to talk about again without having to explain far too much. This is somewhat cycling related because of a tricycle involved in opening sequences, but does anyone remember J. P. Patches? If so, I can tell you where you grew up.

How about the little metal calculators that you had to use with a stylus to move the numbers to add and multiply? I had one, and thought it was so cool. What about slide rules?

Remember thinking how luxurious it was to have a wired remote control?

I too remember watching the test pattern on Saturday mornings waiting for cartoons... Has anyone noticed that Saturday morning cartoons aren't even funny any more?

I can understand this new generation somewhat, but I just remembered earlier today that when I was a recruiter for the Marines, that I got a phone call from someone asking about the rules for flying the American flag... Now, everyone just uses the internet. Without it, I am sometimes at a loss about how to find information.

Card Catlogs in the library... another thing of the past.

Cans were hard, not thin aluminum. The tabs came off (before aluminum there weren't tabs). How about the old beer cans with the two round holes, one large, and a small one to let air in or relieve pressure, I was never sure which...

Power outages were more frequent, but it didn't really matter.

Watching TV with the family.

Not having to be told to go play with your friends outside, but actually asking to...

I remember when there were only one or two former presidents, now you can't swing a dead cat without hitting one.

Home made butter cookies... My great grandmother used to make some that literally melted in your mouth.

How about Coke in 6 oz bottles?

Well, enough random thoughts!

I remember when a "fancy" bike was called an English Racer and they generally came with a SA 3-speed hub. Rayleigh of course. My older brother got one and I got his hand-me-down Schwinn Hornet when I was 5. Personally I'd rather still have the Hornet over the Rayleigh. The next bike I owned (and the first new bike I ever had) was a late 70's Peugeot that I bought when I was a grad student. I've been a roadie ever since.

The funniest thing that ever happened to me with regard to generational gap was walking behind some kids at the local mall a fair number of years ago arguing about who was better: Michelangelo, Donatello, or Raphael. I was really impressed that these kids actually knew enough about art to argue about which of these great masters was better. I was happy to know that they even knew the names of these artists. My hope for the future was greatly increased! Then I later figured out that they were talking about Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles.

Anyone remember Marlboro cigarettes with a red filter, the first year Schwinn came out with the Stingray, or Lawrence Welk, The Rifle Man, Perry Como, Burma Shave signs, and having bread & milk delivered to your house?

My younger brother got one of those first year Stingray bikes. He got one of those things that made fake engine noises, too. I can't remember what they were called, but there were made by Mattel. "Vroom", or something like that if I recall correctly.

Now that I think about it, how come all my brother and sisters got new bikes when they were kids and I didn't and yet I am the only one that still rides?

Come up, come up, come all the way up to Kool...

Winston tastes good, like a cigarette should...

Bonanza!

The Three Stooges on TV right after school... nyuck! nyuck! nyuck!

I had a "portable" stereo the size of a suitcase ... open it up and move the two speakers about five feet away from the record player.

Taping coins to the needle on the record player so it wouldn't skip.

Football helmets without face guards...

Bench seats in the front of the car, so your girlfriend could sit right next to you...

Ice cream trucks coming through the neighborhood in the summer

Bookmobiles!

Aluminum Christmas trees, with a revolving light off to the side that made the tree look red, yellow, green and silver.

Renting a tuxedo for the Prom.

24 out of 25 I think. The only one I missed was the news reels at the movies and I think I may vaguely remember them.

This is really funny becuase My oldest (who is 27) was just saying the same thing. My Grandaughter wanted to watch cartoons and all they have on is that ANIME crap. None of the story lines make sense, good rarely triumphs over evil

How about a phone number of Cuyamaca #3? Ring - 2 longs and two shorts, with 13 other folks on the party line. You got the operator by ringing one lloonngg ring. As soon as you did that, the line almost went dead from everyone else listening on their phones.

We had electricity during the day, but the generator was turned off at about 9:00 pm and started again about 8:00 in the morning.

Gas - 19 cents per gallon, and you usually bought a dollars worth.

Could go down to the record store and grab any 45 that you wanted, and listen to it on one of the three demo turntables on headphones (great big clunky ones) to decide if it was worth the 50 cents. Still have a box of those old 45s. Everything from early Beatles and Chuck Berry, through the 'modern' stuff like Mountain and Cream. Guess it's about time to open up the 'vinyl vault' this weekend and re-educate the kids on what real music is. The best thing is that my kids really do dig my music ....

DG, We still have ice cream trucks. But they have been known to sell drugs out of them.
I remember gas wars where the price got below 25 cents.
15 cents for a hamburger at Smacks. McDonnell’s were 19 cents.
I remember stealing ice from the milk truck in the summer.
Our 53 Ford had a choke to pull from the dashboard when you started the engine.
Many a Saturday morning watching the test pattern before cartoons.
I keep quiet about my age around younger people sometimes. But when I talk about the
Kansas City A’s that dates me.
I used to buy baseball cards every year. One year my Mom called me and told me of all
the baseball cards she found. But when I came back home they were all the reject cards.
I used to go to a minor league hockey game park in a cow pasture for free and pay $1 to
get in. 1967 1968
When did they allow right turn on red after stop?
Speed limit sign of 35 mph in the day and when the lights hit the sign at night 25 mph
showed up.
Silver Dollars! I used to collect them from the Savings and Loan. I remember buying a
wind up alarm clock with them.
I remember slide rules. I also remember my Dad buying the first electronic calculator. It
added subtracted, multiplied and devided for $350

I scored 16
