6 Hours On the Road
Taken from "Six Days On The Road" penned by furniture movers Earl Green & Carl Montgomery. Performed by Dave Dudley.
(lyrics altered)
Well, I rode out of Pittsburgh,
Ridin' down the eastern seaboard.
I've got my Schwin wound up,
And I'm pedalin' like never before.
There's a stop sign ahead, all right,
I don't see a cop in sight.
Six hours on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.
I've got twelve forward gears,
And a Shimano chain drive.
I've takin' little annoyin' spills,
And my eyes are open wide.
I just passed Billy on his trike,
I've been passin' everything in sight.
Six hours on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.
Well, it seems like a week,
Since I kissed my wife good-bye.
I could have a lot of women,
But I'm not like some other guys.
I could find one to ride with me all night,
But I could never make believe that's right.
Six hours on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.
There are many potholes on down the line,
Well I'm a little overweight,
And my cadence is way behind.
But nothin' bothers me tonight,
I can dodge those potholes all right.
Six hours on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.
Well my bike is a little old,
But that don't mean she's slow.
There's a dust cloud from her back,
And gettin' home is my goal.
My hometown's comin' in sight,
If you think I'm exhausted your right.
Six hours on the road and I'm gonna make it home tonight.
********************************************
As you can see I had too much time on my hands to-day.

That's great!
Steve Earle didn't write that song, I have a few different versions in my itunes.
I like to hear it when I'm hauling freight across town on my 3 wheeler.

Gram Parsons did a good version of that song with the Flying Burrito Brothers.

Steve Earle, Dave Dudley, The Flying Burrito Brothers. Yep, performers of the three versions I have in my music collection.
