Say it was too small and it may have been. Critical bit on a mountain bike is standover height. You ideally should have 4" between the crutch and the top bar. Plenty of room in other words. Don't know your height but I have a friend that is 6'3" tall. He has a 23" frame for strength. Has about 2" standover height. When he borrows his sons bike that is a 19" frame- he has 4" standover height. I am vertically challenged and have a very small frame. I do not have 1" of standover height but the seat post is very long. The other lengths on a bike such as fore and aft position of the saddle and bar stem length can be modified to suit your body- but that standover height cannot be changed.
Now on my bianchi- that you have all seen pics of before but is attached below again so you can see what I mean- I did try the next frame size up but it felt uncomfortable. When I am riding, it does not matter to me what size frame I have- providing I can set it up for me when riding. This one may look wierd but it does fit me.

Stapfam, that is an interesting idea for fenders. What are they called? I may want to use those on my commuter bike.
