Went to the LBS to by some cleats but...

So I needed some new cleats and went to my friendly LBS to purchase these for about $20. While there I saw a nice pair of Sidi Giant 5s. I bought the cheapest shimano shoes I could find last year when I went clipless. So I thought I would try the Sidi's on, well that was a big mistake as my $20 visit turned into a $220 visit. Now I have to explain to my signficant other that a needed new shoes and that these will last 4 years so it is a good investment. At least I didn't buy a new bike

Depending on the SO, you might just away with 'they were just so nice I had to have them', when talking about shoes.

Barring the $20 gloves and other such Mundane items on my weekly trips to the LBS- My last two purchases were for a $500 lamp and a $700 bike. Either stop going to the LBS or Think yourself lucky you have self control.

You know, a $220 pair of shoes can't just clip into any old bike. If she "buys" the shoes, time to start dropping little lines like, "You know, honey, I'm going to stick with that old thing no matter what the safety issues with [fill in make/model of current ride].

Yeah, you definitely have some sort of problem there. You should've at least came out of the bike shop with a new floor pump and maybe some new tires to go along with those cleats.

Have you spoke with a doctor about this?

Considering I have one pair of dress shoes and one pair of tennis shoes and I probably never spend more than $100 for shoes she doesn't really understand why I need to spend $200 for shoes you just wear on the bike.

ROTFL. How true. I sometimes call my girlfriend Imelda because she's got at least 60 pairs of shoes in her closets. And I know she's ain't the only female.

When Adidas cycling stuff was really hard to get in North America, I would always buy any Adidas cycling shoes that fit because no one else wore it. So now I've got four pairs of Adidas shoes, one just for track riding, one just for road racing, one that's always got neoprene booties over them, and one for everyday dry weather use and which is wearing out. Time for another pair of Adidas shoes...

the way to slide this sort of thing past your wife is to concoct an excuse that she will recognize as one she can use at a later date. She won't even say B.S. She will just make mental notes, that you are a liar, and that this is a lie she can use. End of story.

In the old days of running, I alternated shoes. Does anyone do that for biking?
