One of my favorite rides
There's a neighborhood 3 miles away called Kensington, which is a mixture of English tudor and Spanish style houses. It's an older neighborhood with mature landscaping, and it's cool because it's not a pass-through neighborhood -- the only traffic is people going to and from their homes.
There is a sort of oval through the neighborhood which is about .8 miles long, and very curvy, with views of really cool houses at every turn. Usually, if there's any wind, it will be a tailwind for half the oval, and a headwind the other, so it's not too much trouble at any given moment.
I can go to this spot, and do laps for a long time without being bored, and yet I'm close to home should I get tired or change my mind or whatever. Today, a twenty one miler was a matter of 18 laps, and getting there and coming home. I know laps can be boring, but for some reason, these rarely are. And because there's hardly any traffic, I can enjoy my iPod and/or zone out into some deep thinking without worry.
Today I got home hoping I'd done the distance in under two hours and was pleasantly surprised to see my time at 1:42.

I am familiar with Kensington, North Park, etc. It is always nice to find a backwater neighborhood that is not bisected by a prime arterial.
