What happened? Where did the time go?

It seems like yesterday it was the early '70s, I was graduating from college, about to set the world on fire. Suddenly, thirty five years have passed and I can't believe it. Where did the time go? Where's the fire? Shouldn't there at least be embers?

What happened???

BF 50+ers. . .rally round. . .we gotta' shake 'Gee 'til he blubbers!!!!

'Gee. . .Dude! Fire is over rated. You've got embers but don't know it. Fire is momentary; embers last, but I swear you should look for them in yourself. Join something, get more friends, volunteer, even if it means less time in the saddle [Cringe]. I'm no shrink [tho' one once scared the Be-Jeezuz outta' me, but I think it was the axe], but you seem to be someone looking for something.

Ever find yourself in the Eastern Panhandle of West [Occupied] Virginia? Drop by some time and I'll share some embers of my own, plus a little history, some local color, and lively conversation [small-town stories, lies, and BS. . .a regional team sport]. Bring the bike and hiking boots.

Build a man a fire and he'll be warm for a few hours.

Set a man on fire and he'll warm for the rest of his life

Like sand through the hourglass and all that....

Beating the alternative every day we wake up on the green side of the grass.

Aww, DeeGee, it's not where you been, it's where you're at and where you're going. You still have time to "teach the torches to burn brighter".

Alright, I'm willing to chip in $20 to send DG down to Tijuana for a couple of nights.

Anyone else?

All the embers were in the bottom of a hash pipe, and you dumped them out. Don't you remember? No? You really were stoned. bk

I wouldn't want to go through those times again for anything. I prefer NOW.

A couple of years ago I cut down on my fretting and worrying about the past and concentrated more upon thinking about how I could enjoy the "Now" and the future. I'm still working on my "If I could do whatever I wanted, what would I do in 2007 & 2008" list. Then I'm going to work on doing as much of that list as possible.

Seriously, DeeGee, What about your daughter? I'm sure you can remember many great times with her that make it all worth while. Not to mention, looking forward to all the great times in the future.

Where'd it all go? Who knows?
I just wish I had paid a little more attention here and there. I do now. Every ride.

Well, DG, At least you're not a pitiful 57-year old teenager like Gary Diego. How would you like to have to wake up next to him every day?

this spring I will be attending my high school class 35th reunion. This will be the first one I have attended as I was out of touch for the 20th and 25th.
The internet has enabled many people like me to reconnect with old class friends. Anyway I don't dwell upon the what ifs or might have beens. I think about how interesting the journey has been. In my class of 588 there are stellar types who have laid out a plan and done very well. There are people I had written off who have done even better. Then there are many like me, who have done alright by most comparisons, but really don't care about that. There is still more life to live and enjoy just being who I am.
I remember at 25 I felt very down. At that age Alexander the Great had already conquered the known world and I was just in corporate sales somewhere. I mentioned this to a friend about a decade later and he commented that using Alexander as a comparison might have been setting the bar just a little too high.

By the time Alexander the Great reached his 50th birthday, he had been dead for 17 years. You've trumped him in spades.

And he has a better bike than Alexander the Great had too!

Although Alex trumps Gary in the chariot category.

Have you looked in the pockets of your other jeans?

I know the feeling, its a feeling that we all get, those of us lucky enough to live so long.
Seriously, the only answer is that you are still alive. Sieze the day.

I don't know about setting the world on fire, but was that you igniting all those forests in California?
