After many frustrating ride starts, I've finally been able to minimize the roadblocks. As a rider who likes to use different bikes, I just gradually aquired a set of "bike stuff' for each - pretty much. Same rear rack with one clip-in trunk/pannier bag that holds it all. Now, if I could just find my wallet... and keys... and phone... and... brain.

Blackberry:
Your photo essay brought tears to my eyes. I miss my mother's family in Austria very much. I took her ashes over there in 2000 and buried her with Oma. I hadn't seen my cousins or aunts and uncles since I was 17 (1974). How time flees from us...

• Bib shorts on and a nature call.
• You are told to be back in such a short amount of time that you lose the momentum.

I'm okay if it is dark, but where there are lights in my field of view and I'm moving or bouncing, I get dizzy. Very hard for me to drive at night for more than 10-15 minutes, unless it is down a fairly straight, low traffic road with few street lights, like an open country road. But even then if it has some curves or hills, the movement of the road from my own headlights will get to me.

It keeps getting worse with each passing year. My doc has tried four different medications, with none having any affect. Been to an ear specialist, who believes it is due to an inner ear issue, but can do nothing about it.

Just last night I had to make a 25 mile drive and had to stop twice along the way to clear my head. This was the longest night drive that I had attempted in 2 years.

But I can walk at night for hours and really enjoy doing so.
A cycling cap under your helmet, with the visor pulled down low should shield your eyes from most street lights. A really bright headlight might help, too. Some of the guys in the commuting forum run some very powerful home-built systems. Check the "total geekiness" sticky in the commuting forum for more info.
