A Journey of 4,000 miles begins with a single post...
Well, another milestone today -- 4,000 miles since picking up a bike again 22 months ago. I went back and found my first post:
What a newbie!
I want to thank everyone on BF for all the education, support, stories, inspiration, and laughs. I truly doubt I'd have reached this milestone were it not for the 50+ Forum.
I also want to thank my legs, which got stronger, and my waistline, which is getting smaller.
In these twenty two months I have bought six bicycles (only one was new) and sold one. I've still invested less than $1,000 total in bikes (not counting repair, upgrades, and clothing). My first bike and only new one was just $339, and I've bought the others for $200 (the Cypress), $125 (The Diego) , $60 (Click, the beach cruiser), $60 (Clack, the other beach cruiser), and $25 (the 1980's Univega). Not bad!
But most of all, it remains as much fun today as it was back in June, 2005, when I rediscovered it and learned you CAN go back to the thrills and joys of childhood -- just get on a bike!

At least your first post wasn't about underwear. 4K miles is a good milestone, do you feel as much better as you thought you might someday?

Well done dg. All you have to do now is get out on a few organised rides to find out what they are like and get up to the 100miler. I have heard that Will is looking for a riding partner on his trip this year so perhaps you should contact him.

Yahoo for you, great job in just 22 months. I hoping I can hit 2K in 24 months. Of course the New England weather kinda shortens the riding season. Stapam is right. Look for an organized ride. We did the NYC ride last year and had a blast, met so many cool riders. Hey, come to NYC in Sept and do it with us.
Congrats

Reading that first post was very prophetic. If only we would have paid attention at that time to that one line - we would have known what was ahead:
Look out, everyone.
Look out, everyone.

Gary, I've only been around this forum a short time and I've enjoyed reading your posts daily. I always look for your new posts first (at least since the demise of Webb Diego), but I do think there's room for improvement:
4,000 miles ÷ 3,149 posts = 1 post every 1.27 mile. Just a suggestion, but I think if you went wireless you could bring this down into the 1/1 or lower range. Thanks.
Steve

Good going Gary, I'm looking forward to July to see how many miles I'll have in. I can remember when I first got on the forum, that you had said you had 3500 miles in a year, and that's what I was shooting for until I went down. I still hoping for 3000 though. Anyhow that was the inspiration I needed, thanks.

Never have so many had so much to say about one man.
Here's hoping the next 4000 take even less time...............you could win a contest...............or not!

So it only took him 54 years to make a decision about junk food=junk body. Now we have more insight into why it takes so long to make a decision on what bike to buy.
Just sayin........

I like reading about your adventures. Congratulations on your progress, fitness and cycling knowledge.
Now the pressure is on...to continue your posting of ideas, brilliant humor and well written posts. If you stop... BF50+ will be a lesser place, and it will be your fault.

It's great to see someone enjoy biking as much as you do

4,000 miles and 3,154 posts.
You need to post a bit more to keep even.
Hey, its been great having you around! Always refreshing and unafraid to ask even the "simplest" question, benefiting many who ARE afraid to ask the "simple" question.
It makes me happy that we fought to get this forum started way back then, despite the RC's of the world.

Are you certain it is only 3,154 posts? It seems like more
"Hear Hear" to the getting the forum started.
Thanks Dnvrfx.
