Road to recovery

I just turned 50 last month so I was waiting to post this. I just averaged 13mph for the first time in two years on my normal ride. My ride is a 10 mile rolling-hills-stop-and-go-city-street-loop. I ride the same loop for comparison purposes. Why so slow? About two years ago I was in a car accident where a guy ran a red light and hit me head on (we were both in cars). Apparently, I have permanent damage to my left knee, back and right hip (suit pending). Prior to the accident, I was riding this loop between 15 and 16mph. So in two years time I have finally cracked into the 13's! I was never a racer or very fast, but I sure would like to get back to where I was. Just thought I would share a story in progress.

If it makes you feel better, I still have problems from a car wreck in 1985! Sitting at a light and a drunk or high driver plowed into me at about 50mph. I guess the neck/shoulder pain is better than the alternative.

Keep riding. You will hit your potential. I never seem to crack the 16mph barrier no matter how hard I push so the TDF has nothing to worry about.

It's great to hear that you're well enough to even back on the bike. It sounds like your enjoyment from riding just comes from being out on the roads so it is great that you have the right perspective.

Thanks for the post!
