Nermal wanted me to let you know

that he had a run in with a car, broke the windshield. His helmet is fine. He has no glass injuries. Some road rash. He's got some pelvic fractures, two broken ribs, and a collar bone. This happened a week ago, and he's just been transferred to a rehab facility. He'll be in touch when he has computer access.

As above, and wishes for a speedy (as much as possible) and complete recovery. Sounds like he's got a positive attitude.

Nermal has posted in the general cycling forum that he is OK. Think he still is not that bright though.

Thanks, Stapfam. Thanks a lot.

Well, I'm able to spend a bit more time at the keyboard (with frequent brakes and short walks). Good news; I was wearing the helmet. So so news; I didn't need it. Not a scratch on it. It was kind of reasurring as I saw the handlebars drifting by as I passed them on the way to the pavement. I'm told the bike came through unscathed, too. I must have singled out my quarry and crammed the windshield butt first. Better than headfirst, I suppose, but. . . .

I can't believe how long this is taking, but progress has occcured. I drove the car today and yesterday, and have been released to return to work starting Monday. As for riding, your guess is as good as mine. I'll tell you what though, it is just darn nice not having to depend on someone else for transportation.

Like serving in the military, being temporarily handicapped is one of those great experiences to have behind you. Great experience, but you wouldn't suggest it to anyone unless they had done something to you first. People are better than I realized. I had a nodding acquaintence with a neighbor before the accident. He saw me while excercising with the walker, got the details, and said to let him know if there were anything he could do. He's since made two grocery shopping trips for me. He's not the only one to give that kind of support.

It's great having friends like these, but darn, it sure takes awhile to find out who your friends really are. Since I'm on the down hill leg, maybe I can learn to just appreciate them. I've always considered myself something of a loner. At age 63, I'm learning it doesn't have to be that way.
