I realize there are some of you out there, perhaps MOST of you out there, who thought I'd NEVER buy a new road bike. Given my history of hemming, hawing, and hesitating, I can't say I blame you.

But behold -- I give you my brand new, 2007 Specialized Roubiax, which I just brought home! I am soooo excited I can't hardly stand it! I used all the advice I've heard on this forum, and in the end, it boiled down to a couple of things:

1. I simply love how this bike fits, handles, and looks.

2. I am proud to own this bike.

3. I am excited to own this bike.

I added Continental tires and a simple bike computer. I'll choose pedals in a month or so; they aren't part of the stock package. I'll probably -- are you ready for this? -- go clipless.

Anyway, here's the bike. I also want to enter this picture in the Dining Room Wall contest, when it comes up.

And then, after posting, I'm going for a RIDE, brother! Ride on!!!

EDIT: PS: I had myself talked into a Giant OCR 2, and went to the LBS today to make the purchase. Then I tried this bike once again, and couldn't say no, even though it was several hundreds of dollars more. I used the "we're only getting older and time passes so quickly, so get the bike you really want" rationalization.

I have just had to sit down and re-evaluate my life. Miracles do happen...And I am speachless.

Not only have you done the Unexpected- You have gone over the top and bought a bike that is not only good- It is SUPERB. Then you change the tyres to a make that others here use aswell. Just don't tell me they are the GP4000's.

I am sorry but if you don't get out and do that 100 miler by the end of the year- I will have to arrange for big paul to visit you and drag you out on some of his hilly rides to get you in trim.

I just used the same rationalization to justify spending beau coup bucks on a custom built Seven. Just had it out for 4 laps around the park. Now the wife wants a road bike as well. The place that fitted her wants to custom build her a Serrota ( they only do custom builds), but told her that for her body type to get either a Roubaix Comp, or a Dolce Comp. It's bike season here though and they seem to be flying out the door as soon as they get into the shop. Good luck with your new ride.

I have to wait for my daughter to get home for school before my first ride, because I need to talk with her about something. I can't stand just sitting here, so I ust did my first modification (not counting swapping tires). I removed the handlebar reflector.

I hope you bought shoes, shorts, jersey, helmet, gloves, socks and all the other necessary accessories to match the bike

Oh, you will get the joy, believe me; that sucker looks fast just standing there against the wall.
The joy will be further multiplied once you swap out the pedals. One week on and I'm still all abuzz.

Seriously, Gary, congrats on the Roubiax, it is a spectacular bike and rides like a dream. I nearly bought one last month but the LeMond Buenos Aires won out--but not by much. You will love this bike more as you ride it more. Here is a good test: Take it on one of your favorite rides and compare your times. I predict you will be delighted and amazed. Of course you will have to ride more now, because your usual rides will not take nearly as much energy as they have in the past.

P.S. If you ever get that mother to DC, Bobby C and I will race you to Mt. Vernon and back. Again, congrats.
