More bike fever

I've been on an upgrade / buying spree. You may have seen my post on a vintage Miyata carbon frame I'm building as a ss/fixie. The cranks will arrive next week and the LBS is installing the fork this week. I have used carbon cranks on the way (assuming another BFer doesn't stiff me) and some carbon LOOKs off a local. Hey, might as well see how light it'll be at 75% off original prices.

Now, an unexpected stroke of fortune has made a 86 Schwinn Paramount available to me. Its almost in NOS shape! I sold my aluminum frame road bike tonight (12 hour turnaround on craigslist) and I'm within $300 of the Paramount price.

I guess my 73 Raleigh will me my junker now.

OH yeah - and I lost 1 lb last week and get to cyclo-commute 5 days this week.

You're having a great week in several areas

A friend and his wife have Paramounts - nice looking bikes. Hope you're able to get yours.

Got the Miyata back from the LBS. Picked up a nice drop bar with adjustable stem and a set of DuraAce barcons, 9spd. Extended my bike-to-work day commute by 8 miles. The Miyata is looking good - I have most of the parts but may have to wait for brake cables since I repurposed them. Maybe some velo orange stainless steel braid?

here are some pics of the Paramount

I had a Paramount 20 years ago. Would absolutely love to still have that bike.
I bought it from one of the riders on the college team at Midwestern State University.
Most comfortable bike I've ever owned!!!!!!! A little heavy IIRC, but smooth as a baby's butt.

That is the bike that convinced me I should wear a helmet. I was coasting down a hill about 35-40
mph looking at that skinny tire--the Paramount was my first road bike--and I started wondering what
would happen to my butt if I crashed at that speed.

ps: aren't old bikes in pristine shape beautiful???????

pps: women are pretty--bikes are beautiful!!!!!!!!!!!

Unfortunately, that's the seller's bathroom. Mine is actually nicer, I spent a lot of time reworking it and working overtime to buy supplies.

Yes, I MUST HAVE HER

I'm in the throes of building the Miyata; she's coming out at the upper limit of my size range.
