HOw about a Regional or National Get Together?

Let's face it...those of us on this 50+ forum probably have more in common physically and from a riding perspective than with some of the younger guys. I realize this is a national (international?) forum, but would anyone be interested in getting together for a ride somtime/somehow? Probably the most practical possibility would be a weekend event where we could reserve some rooms, schedule some rides and go out to dinner in the evening. If it were a nice area, we could even bring non-riding spouses and they could hang out near the pool, go shopping.

No, I'm not offering to set this up. But was just wondering if there would be any interest is riding and meeting some of the guys you sort of get to know on these boards? Perhaps this is the kind of thing that would need the better part of a year to set up and schedule?

It's a nice idea, even if a logistical nightmare. However, I have greatly enjoyed meeting a few BFers one-on-one when they have visited the San Diego area.

One possiblity would be to arrange a bunch of simultaneous localized get togethers with some sort of Internet web camera videoconferencing linking the sites. We could go on smaller local rides before or after holding one big convocation in Cyberspace.

We could all get on the Jerry Springer show, yell and scream and throw chairs at each other, and so forth.

Then go out and get some rhubarb pie and coffee.

Actually, a good way to do something like this is to hold it around an organized event. For example, I know a lot of BF'ers on the Road forum who meet at the Covered Bridge Metric (https://www.lancasterbikeclub.org/cbm.php) or the Seagull Century (https://www.seagullcentury.org/) in the mid-Atlantic area. I hope to be doing those events, as well as the Civil War Century (https://www.baltobikeclub.org/index.pl/cwc) and the Bay Country Century (usually over Labor Day, but I've seen no link yet). Always happy to meet & eat w/ people at such an event!

Count me in, I know Denver Fox wanted to do it, but it never happened. I think it would be pretty hard to pull off with all you workcoholics out there.

I like the idea of an organized ride-- Reston has a Century in September--and we're 20 miles from DC, so non-cyclists can play tourist and go see the sights... just a thought-

On the other hand, I will be in Colorado in June doing Ride the Rockies... anyone else doing it?

I'd love to do Mitchell, but as I understand, it has been closed (filled) for months... maybe next year-

train safe

How about a neutral location?

Meet at Milford, OH. Travel up to Xenia. Hang a left and go to Dayton. See the Air Museum there. They have a B-48 that is just mind-boggling.

Beverly, are you familiar with that route, the Miami Valley Rails-to-trails or somesuch? I think I'm going to try to do that in the next few months if the schedule allows.

I'm in North Carolina . . . . near Charlotte. The Blue Ridge Parkway is not too far away. Some areas that are good to ride are near Fancy Gap, Virginia.

I sure am familar with those trails. I grew up in a little town along the Little Miami Scenic trail that runs from Milford to Xenia (and beyond). Once you enter into Montgomery County on the trail from Xenia to Dayton you're on the trails maintained by the local park system where I volunteer. Great trails in the area.

You won't have far to travel from the trail to the AF Museum. Future plans call for a bike trail from the current system to the museum. The new mountain bike trails they're building are near the museum, too.

If you get up this way and have time be sure to contact me. I wouldn't want to pass you on the trail and not know it was you If you're wearing your mask I'm sure I would recognize you.

It would probably take me longer than a weekend to do it, but I would give it a try.

The Civil War Century sounds interesting. They say the metric century is flat....but I think many people who describe a route as flat are accustomed to climbing mountains

Actually, the metric is relatively flat, rolling hills, nothing like the imperial century.

They are doing that in the NorCal section, but I'm not back up to 70 mile rides awith 3,500 feet of climbing.

Anyone in the Bay Area, I'm doing a ride with two other friends that starts in Windsor, this Sunday at 9:00AM. Friends are welcome. Mandatory soaking of the sore muscles in the hot tub after the ride. Let me know for info.

I plan to. With my feet up, cool drink in hand, reading your ride report the next day here at BF. And please post some dramatic pics of you grinding up that last pitch.
