A ride worthy of photos

Since everyone seems to enjoy seeing pictures of our rides, I submit these of my weekend outing to the Uncompahgre Plateau. It was a typical backcountry ride with lots of forest service roads and 4-wheel drive trails . . . not so many miles but lots of climbs and heavy braking on the downside.

This was one of the finest backcountry rides I've had in a long time. Bright blue skies, nearly had the place entirely to ourselves, and spectacular flowers. Plus my wife joined in the fun! She doesn't like the long distance road thing, but isn't afraid to get a little dirty on a backcountry route.

Sheer beauty... how many shades of green can YOU count in that first photo.

Beverly, if you're gonna hit all these spots (Colorado hills, California coast) you'd better get started!
It's gonna take you a while to fit them all in.

Love it. We almost got to put an office in Grand Junction a few years ago. I was even out there looking around. Didn't pan out though. That's some purdy country. Thanks for reminding me what a great and varied country we have.

my in-laws live in Grand Junction and I cannot for the life of me convince my wife that western CO is one of the best places to live. she's not a small town girl; unless the small town is just outside a LARGE city.

A few more shots from my trip:
A fresh bear foot print about 10 feet from the trail! I was hoping to see the little rascal, but my wife said we should keep moving . . .
The wild iris which caused me to stop where the bear print was . . .
And a noisy black squirrel.

It's nice to have a rack trunk big enough to lug around my digital SLR, and now I know how easy it is to share -- look for more from western Colorado, unless that bear finds me

Grand Junction, at just over 100,000, is a booming metropolis compared to Delta, and where these photos were take is about 2 hours by car from my house (about 25 miles away). During our 3 days on the Uncompahgre we saw a total of 4 pickup trucks, 7 atvs and one motorcycle . . . the wildlife definitely had us outnumbered! It's just the way I like it
