Age Distribution of the Fifty Plus (50+) Forum

Another thread got me to wonderin' just what the age distribution of this interesting, lively, and rather civil forum really is, curious gal that I am. The results may be useful (or not!) to those who wish to create a new forum designed around the special concerns of the 65-year-old+ cyclists in this group.

Presumably, those over 50 years of age subscribe to this forum, well, because it calls out to you, and so I won't ask you to give a reason why you're here, though I'd love to hear your thoughts on what this forum brings to your life, above and beyond the other forums on BF, if you're willing to share them.

As for those lurkers and occasional posters under 50 years of age, like me, I'd really like to hear what it is about this forum that brings you here.

Please vote in your age category according to biological age. If you feel older or younger, please express this in your posts, with any other thoughts you wish to share. Thank you!

    WOW!

For the first time that I can remember, someone didn't classify us as 65+, which is the common way age criterion is set up in the "other" forums - you know - every five years until 65, and then 65+.

Kind of like how at 51, I am having to race in the 40+ beginners category at MTB races.

I'm 52, feel 27, look somewhere in between, ride like someone half my age.

I like this forum because I fit in. My brief encounters with the road forum have overwhelmed me with the sheer number of posts. I feel like their mother. I don't need the reminder.

Reading the stories posted here of folks rediscovering their youth via bicycle reaffirms for me that the 2nd century of our lives is even more fulfilling than the first. I flatter myself in that I hope my own new adventures can inspire someone else here to try something new, whether it be riding faster or farther than ever before, or looking inward and trying on some personal growth there.

Until my coffee kicks in & I get my morning ride, that's all the thinking I can do.
When my feet hit the floor in the morning, Satan shudders and says, "Oh, *****, she's awake!"

VegaVixen I don't think you play fair, you asked for our Biological age.

Like Red Rider, I'm Much Much biologically older than I feel - and Ride

57 here. As they say "Great minds think alike". The sense of humor and support for whatever each of us is doing is why this forum rocks. We don't care whether you can ride 20 miles a week or 200 miles a week. Everyone here is an equal.

I answered honestly, and put myself into the 50 - 54 category. Only qualify until November, when I get into the next bracket!

Well, biologically, I'm younger than 50. Physiologically, older. Mentally/emotionally, much older. And quite ok with this scenario, except for the physiological part, which I'm trying to mitigate with exercise.

Just that someone questionned why this forum is being approached by folks "younger" than 50. So I wanted to see just how old everyone really is (well, the ranges into which everyone falls) vs the ages they feel or with which they associate themselves.

I'm 56, but feel much younger. I hang out here, as it is entertaining, everyone gets along, and I don't have to see WTF nearly as often (hardly ever) as it is used in some of the other forums. And I can be a Fred and noone complains about it or tries to change me! I used to hang out on a local club site, but there was so much bickering all the time amongst the members that I seldom go there now. And, I like pie!!

I'm 57, physically I feel somewhere in the 40's and I often act like someone in the 20's (or so my 25 year old officemate tells me.)

Hey, you're pretty sharp for an old geezer.

Yes, I am so far the sole responder to this thread who admits to being here without a Gray Card. Hope I don't get deported. Surely my white hair counts for something!

You meant an AARP card? You're welcome to stay and you're safe, no one is calling the border patrol yet.

Thanks, wrafl. I'll just sit over here out of the way, and try not let my knees crackle too loudly.

Actually, I was referring to a Green Card. But I still have my late husband's AARP card, for what that's worth.

It takes a bit for these folks to wake up and then find their tri-focals!

This is a great Idea, i have to admit i have been wondering but was not 'smart' enough to get a poll going. Fifty-five here... think I look younger. Do I act my age, I am not a liberty to say. Does that impy I don't act my age? I like to come here cause it is bike related,,,after all it is a bike forum,, and because there is not the 'off color' language as Freerunner says.... and the friendly manner in which posts are posted and accepted and forgiven...and the fact that we seem to be a group that would get along even if we were not in this electronic world.
Keep up the good work, all you who are behind the scenes of this great sight and forum.
    peace
