Found cause for my hotspot!!
Been riding several years and never had an issue with my feet until this year. Same shoes.......same style of socks.........essentially the same distance and time in the saddle. However, this summer I've noticed the bottom of my feet letting me know they're uncomfortable.....sometimes really uncomfortable.
I got really wet Saturday so I put everything out to dry. I pulled out the cushions in my shoes and there is was............
I cover up the holes in my shoes in the winter with duct tape. Guess what was still on the sole of the inside of my shoe..........it was doing a really terrific job of keeping the air from circulating around the bottom of my feet.........

Ah, yes... duct tape the miracle material. This stuff can be used for some incredible things, but making your feet hot is a new one to me. I guess it was a good thing you got wet on Saturday. I make it a habit to take my insoles out after each ride... just to let 'em air out a bit.

I recently went clipless and suffered from hot spots. I tried several fixes, none of which worked, my last resort I went without socks, no more hot feet. Don't know what I will do when it gets cold out again though.

Funnily enough- the first pair of Clipless shoes I bought had mesh on the top- Big holes to let the water in to the shoe. It was the only shoe I had for a couple of years and I never had foot problems. I also tried never to stop on a wet ride- because you could see how wet the ride was by watching the water rush out of the bottom of the shoe once you took pressure off the sole by lifting it off the ground.

I still get some hot spots during longer rides, I can live with them but I wish they weren't there. I'm thinking I'll need some new shoes next season, hopefully that will take care of it.

I've only had my shoes for about 4300 miles. And now I'm starting to get hot spots. How long are shoes supposed to last? They're Specialized Taho MTB shoes.

I start getting all types of issues once I get over 50 miles. For me I think it is just a result of getting fatigued and changing my riding form. My feet develop some hot spots or start getting numb, my butt starts to hurt and I get some fatigue in my arms. Up to 50 miles and I have absolutely no problems what so ever.
As for cool feet, socks make a big difference and I have also gone from using more ventilated shoes to less. I seem to sweat the same regardless but the more ventilated shoes required some type of cover in the winter and like Stap says were a pain when riding in the rain.

Shoes........I've only found one style that fits my really long, really narrow, really flat feet.......seems like I'm stuck!!
