Do your son and other road users a favor and make sure the driver's fitness to continue to operate a motor vehicle is reviewed. If drugs or alcohol were involved, try to make sure the judge throws the book at him. Make sure his liability insurance pays your son's medical and bicycle repair bills.

Let you son know that all of us here at the 50+ forum are in his corner (and yours). Maybe knowing that a bunch of old geezers and geezettes are thinking of him will help. Keep us up to date on his recovery.

+1000 to the well wishes that have been offered already. I have 2 sons and 2 daughters, ages 12-20. I'd have a heart attack myself to get that phonecall. Know that we're all pulling for him and you.

Bummer. Bet you felt like you needed the emergency room more than he did. My kids are forbidden to do such things to me ... and so far are resecting that.

When you get him home, give him the 'don't pick on something bigger than you' talk, then advise him to pick on 'such and such' a brand of pickup 'because they're made of tinfoil and crumple better'. Sure, it's a nonsense argument, but it's a fine aussie way of telling your son he scared the living daylights out of you.

We are all glad that your son and you are OK.

Can anything be done to reduce exposure to this kind of accident in the future?

So, how's the bike?
I did that to my dad, twice. Now I'm waiting for my kids to do it to me.

Hope he gets back up and riding soon, go with him on the first ride.
