The bike goes up hills
September Goal is met and I have climbed the basket in our area. Got the 34t for the compact yesterday so there was no excuse. It was time to try the hill. Out before the sun got up and went for it. Well it is done. Pic at the top with the apt name of High and over. Major problem was at the bit at the end where I met a headwind- Quite abreeze at 15mph. Have to admit that it was out of the saddle and the HRM registered 172 by the top and I knew it. Then down to sea level and start the next hill. Doesn't look steep but it is. At the top there is a steep downhill and the 16% sign says it all. I have climbed this one before but it is not safe. Very narrow road and I don't like being overtaken by buses 6" off my bars so I did it the right way. Then missed out on the average 5% climb for 2 miles as that is boring. Did the 10% quick climb instaed. Time for Brekkie so down to Eastbourne sea front and I am afraid I let you down. I did not feel like a bun or slice of Gateaux- Had a Brie and Bacon Panini instead.
Time to get back on the way home and a bit of History for you. Britain was Invaded by the Normans in 1066 and they landed at Pevensey. There was a previous Castle dating from the Romans about 2,000 years ago and this was Extensively refurbished By the Invading army. Unfortunately- they must have been cowboy Builders as after 1,000 years it needs doing again.
Definitely time to get home now as the legs were beginning to feel the strain of just a fraction too high a gear on the hills. From Pevensey there is a Road that in the car has a series of short sharp slopes. Never ridden it so time to kill the legs. Those short sharp slopes in the car don't exist on the bike. Well inside the gearing and well inside the capabilities of my Tired legs.
So The Boreas does go up hills. I will still require a lower gear for the mountains but Have plans for getting a 34 rear cassette before that happens.

Nice pictures, everything is so green. Here, things turned brown months ago. Panini looks good, too.
Any chance you will be going to the Mountain Bike World Championships in Scotland? I think it's next weekend. I read an article about Steve Peat and how he's hungry to win there since he rode there as a kid. He said there are 70,000 fans at the races there and I thought it would be cool to hear from someone who went to the event.

Scotland is a long way from where I am based so I doubt that I would be able to make it.
And unfortunately I have a prior engagement with a mentally handicapped rider on a Charity ride next week. He must be mental as He has requested that I do the ride with him as He wants to go on the back of the Tandem. He has done a couple of road rides with me but this will be his first ever event offroad and he will will not have any controll on where the Tandem is going. Might see if he fancies Offroad downhills at 50mph. Or see if he can tackle the Rough stuff where he won't be able to stop due to the depth of Mud.
And Subject to timing- Ventoux will be on again next year. Funny thing tonight is that I do not feel any tiredness or stiffness in the legs or body. Mind you- I am feeling hungry so perhaps I should have tackled the Gateuax after the Panini.
And another bit of history for you- The telephone box is one of the old style Red ones that were phased out about 20 years ago. It was felt by the local council that the new style would not be in keeping with the area so the old one was retained. "Old Style Red one"? This is an area of outstanding beauty(As defined by the Nature council) and it was felt that a red box would stand out and detract from the area- So it was painted a "Nice" blend in colour of green- I believe that it is the only Green one in the UK.

It sounds like you really had your heart working pretty good. Mine kept beeping because of the settings that came with it. I kicked it up to 160, anyhow congratulations on a job well done and thanks for the pictures, it sure looks pretty over there.

An off-road charity event? Sounds like fun. All the charity rides I know of are on the road.
