Cycling XC for a Cause

I happened to be in Charleston when the fire happened:

Firefighter to bike 2,500 to raise money for Charleston fire victims
CHARLESTON, S.C., 09.13.2007
AP

A firefighter from Georgia is raising money for the families of nine firefighters killed in the blaze at the Sofa Super Store in the West Ashley section of Charleston.

Laddie Williams is riding his bicycle 25-hundred miles from California to Charleston.

Williams is a firefighter in Augusta, Georgia. He was in the Mojave Desert yesterday and plans to arrive in Charleston in mid-October.

Williams says the deadly June 18th fire hit him hard and he wanted to do something to draw attention to the dangers emergency workers face.

Williams and fellow cyclist Scott Rousseau will stay in fire stations along the route.

More firefighters are planning to join them for different legs of the ride.
