I was going to post something

But I changed my mind.
I mean, does anyone really care that I don't use my inhaler before every ride anymore?
Besides, I don't have the patience to wait the 1-5 minutes it takes for this server to respond to nearly each and every click

So, what you are telling me is that it wasn't worth posting about - but it was worth posting about not posting about it... This is far too confusing for Friday. Are you trying to mess with our minds?

Gave up on my last attempt to post on this thread as the screen froze so had to come back.

It has taken so long to free up I forgot what this was about so why did you post it?

(On the inhalor- Fitness coming in? or getting tight on Funds to buy a replacement?)

I always inhale before a ride. For that matter, during and after as well.

I am always messing with peoples' minds. Mine included.
I just figure that my progress and accomplishments -while pretty important and meaningful to me- aren't all that interesting to most of you here. I mean, when someone is running marathons, why would they want to hear about baby steps?

Anyway...

Since last April -before every ride- I would do my 2 obilgatory puffs before I went out on the bike(s)
As I live in a hilly coastal zone, I'm going to run into hills if I want to go anywhere meaningful
But climbing those hills would push me right into the red zone in pretty short order and as I worked harder I could feel my chest start closing up until I was gasping like a beached fish. Not pretty.
Not too much fun, either.

So, since my last visit to my cardiologist and my internist left everybody so happy -and since I've been learning how to climb more smartly- I thought I would see what would happen if I didn't do the 2 puffs. I still bring it with me JIC but I don't just assume, before I even start out, that I'll need it.

So, I've been going out and tackling more and harder climbs and I'm finding that -while I can still get my HR up (right to my mandated limit) and I can still get myself sucking some serious wind- I can cope. I am not debilitatingly gassed at the top. I am also finding that, once I get to the top, my HR is dropping 20% a minute, a nice recovery. These are now the incremental improvements I strive for.

And as soon as we get our pup out of puppy school, I'm hoping to get back to riding more than 25 miles on my Saturday jaunts. I still want to hit 50 by year's end.

I care! That's terrific, great news. Hey, if we care about one another's colonoscopy reports, shouldn't we care that someone is breathing better?

I know that feeling - definitly no fun on a ride or run. I use Advair Diskus 2x/day for over ten years. My allergist told me its the Cadillac of inhalers (I'd prefer the Porsche). I've tried getting off it too but always notice a shortness of breath or weezing symptoms.

I thought that's why we have this forum. Let's face it, we are all of an age where the athletic prowess of youth is no longer a reality. We all face the struggle to get/stay in shape so that we can have healthier lives. It is always an inspiration to me when one of you posts about significant (to you, to me) accomplishments. Shoot, if I'm not willing to read these things from others, how can I presume to post about mine?

This is great stuff. Keep it up!

Care, are you kidding this is great. When you can cut down on your dependency on medication through cycleing that is good for all to know. It give us hope for the future. Better living through chemistry is not all of what it is cracked up to be. Now if we can could only show that cycling is a good substitute for viagra.

Now there is hope that a lighter bike might actually help me get it up faster.
