New bike, Yippee

Just gave my credit card number for this

http://www.bikes.com/bikes/2006/solo/solo-50st.aspx

You sensible people will say, ride it first, buy after making sure, and I agree

But, it's craftsmen built from a small bunch of enthusiasts, it's steel with carbon, not everyone has one, and it's PRETTY

And my present new bike, 17 years old now, I bought unseen also as an affair of the heart, and it's taken me all over UK, London to the Med, Helsinki to Stockholm, commuting in Paris, 20,000 miles so far

Yip yip yip I can't wait

Oh yea, there's no sense or necessity, I feel like a teenager

(Did I mention I'm excited?)

Is this possibly a reason to start a new thread?

If so, I need to state my position - white bar tape is for superior cyclists

But I won't read it

Thanks, Beverly

I first was aware of this bike when I bought a pair of tandem wheels from Rocky Mountain Cyclery in Boulder CO. They are also dealers for Rocky Mountains Cycles, a Canadian company who are the builders of the bike I've just bought - I think the similar name is just a coincidence.

The wheels arrived, well packed and faultless, a couple of weeks after placing and paying for the order. So I'm a happy buyer from them. Credit where it's due

White bar tape is for cyclist with clean hands who don't ride too often

Now sour grapes doesn't help much

But haven't you had a new bike this year already? I even missed the posting so you didn't announce it loud enough.

You are right though- white tape do require clean hands so Wobbly will have to buy some new gloves now to keep his bike nice and clean. But then I suppose he could always do a DG and only ride it gently down to the beach to watch the Biker babes along the promenade-

I think My name has just been put on a hit list for sacrilidge.

For some reason- I have gone off white bikes but the Blue and black highlights do make it look good.

I beg your pardon, but the website says, and I quote:

COLOUR(S)
White + Viper Blue + Carbon

Now everyone knows the first color mentioned is THE color of the bike!

I think I posted my first acquaintance with this bike, and my wish to buy it. That must have been about four months ago.

In the meantime, I posted about buying my sweet spouse a Trek FX 7.5. She loves that, and is a bit hard to keep up with! She rode it this summmer from London to Helsinki, and we ride with the Bahrain Wheelers every weekend - and she not only keeps up well, but also leads groups of newcomers.

I've never come across a bike from that company. I just ran a dealer check for Wisconsin and it turns out that I just drove past one yesterday. I've read a couple of positive reviews posted by owners.

Thanks for all your responses - I feel like a kid who's just peeked in early December into the wardrobe where the Christmas presents are hidden.

So - your advice about doing a new bike justice? I mean, I'm still a bit cr-p, maybe I get ready to have a Whopping First Ride? (Yup, I'm a Bobcat, I listen to "Modern Times" more often than would be advisory)

(If this reference is obscure, that's another thread)

I haven't bought a new road bike since last year....it was a mountain bike I bought this year. Does that count

The 2008 WSD Madone I've been looking at is "Pearl White". Maybe I shouldn't come down too hard on these white bikes and tape or I just could wait for another year and see what color they have available

Somewhere I read a similar suggestion about the price you paid for the bike should be near the miles you ride each year. I think it was on this forum, too. Sounds like a sensible thing to me
