Hilly Hundred Bancroft Ontario Canada

Completed my second ever centery today. The Hilly Hundred is billed as the toughest century in Ontario.
In 160 kilometers there were 2700 meters (8858 feet) of climbing (the profile is here). Although the time was slower than i had hoped for (7hrs 33mins), i was about in the middle of the pack, finishing quite a bit ahead of a lot of young guys. we also had 25km/hr headwinds for about 40km. All in all a great and very scenic ride, i would recommend it to anyone within driving distance. They also had 60km, 80km, and 240km distances. i did the 80 last year but at this point am not remotley contemplating the 240 next year.

8,858 feet of climbing 7:33 sounds great to me for that much climbing, and you weren't the last to finish! Well done!

I believe I was the person to finish last. I'm quite serious too, I believe I was last by a substantial margin, like an hour or so . They were packing up the last checkpoints into the trucks and passing me while I was still a long ways out of bancroft. In my defence, it was my first year cycling and I started out at over 280lbs in April, so I hauled a lot of mass up and down those hills. And my front derailleur broke halfway through leaving me stuck in the middle ring. Ah well.

I'm doing it again in 2010, hope to finish towards the end of the pack instead of dead last this year.

Here's the official website:
www.tripsandtrails.ca

but the info there is rather lean. Here's a map I found:
https://www.mapmyride.com/ride/canada...t/300135797614

And that looks correct, though last year they rode it in the reverse direction from what is indicated.

Heck I got hundreds of relatives all through that ride area.....

Only 2700 meters of climbing, heck a couple of the hills through there would be 2700 metres all alone...

Since you are into climbing take a look at this century ride. https://ridingforareason.org/ Had it on May 15th this year. 8830 elevation gain according to my computer.

Anyone going back there this weekend?

I guess they've got road construction, so what do they do? Add 30k on to go around it. 190K, with like 3k meters of climb. It's going to be brutal. But the weather looks wonderful again - high 20's and sunny. Perfect for riding around bancroft/barry's bay.
