    Interesting: RAAM

I think it was elsewhere on this forum, they mentioned RAAM. Looks like some very interesting reading under "How To's"

I printed 6 pages from the site and going to read it in a minute.

The long distance forum has links to RAAM and the UMCA. Yes, there is a lot there. I wrote a piece on follow vehicle lighting systems a long while ago.

Does this mean you're thinking of trying it? BF member Vireo did it this year on a 2 man team. My clubmate David Jones finished the solo race this year in his second attempt. He's 61!

Oh no big john, I'm happy with my few hour, 60 mile rides, I just don't have that kind of fortitide!..LOL But, there is some very good and informative reading in the RAAM site that I think will apply to training in general. I need all the help I can get.

There is a race this weekend called The Furnace Creek 508. Yes, 508 miles. Several BFmembers will be there, including Vireo, who will be riding a fixed gear! Ron Smith will be on his recumbent, and David will be at his 4th (I think) 508. RAAM riders have attended this race in the past, including Tinker Juarez and Kenny Souza.

I have been privileged to watch the two most recent RAAM starts at the Oceanside Pier. Several prominent San Diego area cyclists, including The Brothers Penseyres, are RAAM veterans. I think Pete still holds the overall average speed record for a crossing, and I think Jim still holds the amputee record.

Looks interesting. 3000 miles in 12 days max! I would really like to ride across the country but sure wouldn't mind taking a few more days (months) to do it.

In early 2002 I met up with two chaps for the final 15 miles of a 3-month transcontinental crossing, a Red Cross fundraiser they dubbed the "Red Across America."

The 508 is over and friend 61 year old David Jones finished 17th with a time of 35 hours and 48 minutes to go 508 miles. Ridiculous! Another 61 year old guy beat him by over 3 hours!
