backward glare in my sunglasses

When I ride into the rising sun, I get glare in my sunglasses which makes it impossible to see into the shadows on the road ahead of me. All I see is my own eyeball staring back at me. Will polarized lenses fix this? The salesman was doubtful. He said they would eliminate glare on surfaces ahead of me, like a windshield, but not surfaces behind the lens, like my eyes. What will do the trick--anybody know? I even get extreme glare with amber lenses.

Never had this problem but that may be due to the fact that I wear a visor on my helmet. Just drop my head a bit and the sun disappears. But I also use a pretty good pair of cycling specific glasses aswell.

I suspect this could be fixed by closer fitting sunglasses. I've had this issue with eyeglasses, but with my Oakley Why 8.1, the lenses wrap around a bit more on the sides. That they don't make me look like Robocop or Kool Moe Dee is an added bonus. See if you can get lenses that curve more when viewed from above.

If they are prescription sunglasses, have a discussion with your eyecare professional about applying a back-side surface anti reflection coating, should do the trick.

Motor vehicle drivers coming up from behind may be having the same visual problems. Scary but true. Be aware.
