Little slow in posting. Here's my road bike from last Sunday. Still need a comfortable black seat. I must add I've have been disappointed with every photo I've taken of bike. I can not get a pic of the black bike showing the detail as I see it in person. May have to try a studio set up next.

White garage door has proved to be the best by far. If you don't have a white door- Borrow a neighbours. I don't have a white door and by US standards- it is too small in any case, No garage door? A brick wall works

How about black bike parts:
This will be built up with parts taken from a Trek 1000.
It will be my 'rain bike' to save wear and tear on a new '07 Trek Pilot 5.2.
Since it's about to start raining here for the next week or so, I should have time to work on it.
I'll post pictures when it is a real bike.

OK, finally got the bike build finished and on the road today, about a 36 miler. Beautiful day on the central Oregon coast...cold overnight, some frost in places, but warmed up nicely by about 10:30/11AM.
Rode into town to meet a fellow rider and we head out on our usual 25+ route (farther for me as I have to ride to the 'start'). Bit of a headwind heading up our local river, then a tailwind on the return, but then a headwind (now cooler) for me to get back home, but only about 3.5 miles worth.
This frame was purchased from BikesDirect.com in sort of a 'group buy' (it was over on the "coupons" advertising forum). It was really a special price for pre-ordering before the shipment came in. This frameset is used on several of the BikesDirect bikes, ranging in price from $1095 to $1695. Same frame on 4 models just 'better' components going up the line.
As mentioned above, the parts were taken from a Trek 1000 (for now), so it isn't the worlds lightest build, but it rides much better than the aluminum T-1000, but not quite as smooth as the Pilot. It is very straight line stable (more so than the Pilot!) but will still turn nicely. Had it up to 40+ on a local hill already, and it was rock steady.
Picture:
The yellow water bottle cage will be going away, for a nice pair of black Bontrager cages. The stem might get "flipped" later, or a slightly shorter flatter one put on. The headset spacers might get shorter also, but I started it out high for the time being. It's easy to go down, much harder to go higher.
I'm already shopping for componet upgrades for next spring...
Sorry for the shadows in the picture...but there was this strange thing lighting up the sky today. I'll wait for our usual cloudy, drizzly day to try again.

My much-missed Trek 5200, taking a break on Alpe d'Huez. Sadly, the bike was totaled when I got clipped by a pickup towing a trailer (and put on the pavement at 40 mph! ).

Admittedly with some silver in there, but basic black is the majority. Since this picture she's grown a set of clipless pedals, a new back tire (Armadillo, I'm trying to outrun the flat fairy) a computer and another cage. Got her in May, have over 600 miles now. It's so nice when it's smooth!

does mostly black count?
and here, indeed, is beauty and the beast....
seems to be that black is MUCH faster... certainly more attractive... and just plain cooler....
(note the brooks saddle... i won't rant about the saddle... and i won't pick on white bikes... much...)

Here's the proof. Titanium Dioxide the most universal basis for white paint is often made from Ilmenite, a black mineral.

Alright, here are two recent pics of “The Beast” in all it’s commuter
garb. In back, the old milk crate bolted to a Blackburn rack handles
my knapsack quite nicely on the commute back and forth to work.
Mounted to the light bar are two Planet Bikes Superflash tail lights.
The Blinkie down farther is quite old. The fenders are donations from
some old cruiser some 15+ years ago. Up front is a Blackburn
Quadrant which works fine for the areas where I ride, though it’s
almost useless on MUP’s. There’s a green blinkie mounted further down
and a little ding bell mounted to the side of the stem and an old Avocet 30
computer on the handlebar. I do want to get longer bar extenders sometime.
The U lock and chain and padlock rounds it out. Now don’t ask me how heavy
it is as I don’t know and I really don’t want to know. I know it’s ugly, in
fact it could probably win an ugly award….but it definitely serves its
purpose. It handles road and off road equally well, climbs well and easily
reaches 30 mph on the downhill…with all the crap I’ve got bolted
onto her, it’s hard not to hit 30 going downhill!!! In a few weeks she gets
even uglier when the winter wheels go on, the ones with the studded tires.
