Slice and dice time
This coming Thursday, November 15th, I'm scheduled for a right hemithyroidectomy. It doesn't sound like it should keep me off my bike long. Has anyone here had this surgery?

Best of luck on your upcoming surgery, Bud! Never had that particular surgery (had to Google it to understand what it is), but I've had a couple different surgeries and understand that it's the anethesia that knocks us for a loop, not so much the surgery. It can take weeks to get it out of the system. Might be a good time to shop for a trainer so you can get back in the saddle slowly (and more safely) as you recover.

My wife had thyroid surgery about twenty years ago. I'm not sure if it was exactly the same as yours, but it was a removal of an overactive thyroid. She had a spiral sutures all along her throat but got along fine. It took a while to get the replacement medicine regulated but that the only problem she has had.

Best of luck with your surgery! This is not my favorite activity. I know when I had "next to" the brain sugery five years ago, it took me about two weeks longer than I had programmed in my mind to get "recovered."

I wish you a speedy recovery and hope you're back on the bike soon. Don't rush it....listen to your doctor.

I had a subtotal thyroidectomy 11 years ago (left just a little piece) and I attempted to do too much too soon after the surgery. I was laid up for two weeks, because I didn't rest and heal for a few days. So take it easy for a week or so, then assess how you feel. Hope it goes well, and that your recovery goes smoothly.

My sister has had this operation. It wiped her out for over a month. Good luck with yours and hope the results are good.
