Bye Bye Brittany

No, not Britney Spears. My 80's vintage Free Spirit Brittany woman's 10 speed which has performed solid service as my beater bike, ready to use when all my other bikes were ailing. But in response to a request for bicycles to be given for Christmas, I decided that she was better off doing other things than resting in my storage bin most of the time.

This morning we took a bus ride downtown to the Arkansas Sustainability Network headquarters. The weather was grey and sprinkling. It was a sad parting in the rain. I rode her from the bus to the headquarters, and the gates were all locked, and the place was empty. But while I stood there, wondering what to do, an ASN member appeared, unlocked the gates and welcomed us in. He praised what nice shape she was in.

The ASN Bike Coop was started this summer and is quickly becoming the most popular function of ASN. Its good for Little Rock to finally get a bike coop. So I was glad to help them and help Brittany get a new life. But all the same, its a little sad for the herd to go from n to n-1.

That's such a wonderful story. Good for you to give her up like that. She's going to make someone very happy. You already did! (Me!)

I had second thoughts when I gave my son my Trek, but when I see him riding it, it makes me feel good. I read somewhere, that it's a great reward for you, as it is for the receiver and it's true.
