Trainer mishap....
Last night I'm riding my steel bike on the trainer as I watch the World Series. Everything's fine until I take my hands off the bars, sit straight up to stretch and my seat clamp gives way allowing the seat to shift nose straight up. I lose my balance, and slide back down over the seat, my rear hits the back wheel (got a single, thin tire burn just to the left of my backside center line, if you know what I mean). My feet are clipped into the pedals, so as I hit the floor, I bring the entire bike down on top of me. There I lie with the bike still in the trainer with the whole thing upside down and on top of me, my feet still clipped to the pedals. My oldests son turns from watching the game and says, "Hey, aren't you susposed to keep it muddy side down, clean side up?" It must have been the perfect thing for him to say, because instead of cursing, I just start laughing as I try to get myself untangled from this whole thing. No serious injuries or damage to the bike or trainer. Lesson learned... check the seat clamp every once in a while to see if it's still tight.

I was imagining which body parts could have gotten pinched under the brake caliper/bridge as I was reading your post.

I found myself in a strange quandary... laughing and worrying about whether you were hurt. Then I realized that if you were hurt seriously last night you wouldn't be writing, and then I was able to really laugh when you mentioned that your response was laughter.

You're in good company. George Hincapie similarly took a spill at Paris Roubaix when his steerer snapped. Likewise, you crashed during a Big Sporting Event due to equipment failure. You're in great company. Except George wasn't laughing.

Dad pulled me into his home office to tell you what happened last night. I'm not a member; so, I'm using his profile. It's like he said it was. Mom wishes it had happened in the garage, but it was in the family room. Trying to talk Dad into not having his bike there would be impossible. Dad also doesn't drink anymore. So, it really was just the seat slipping. I don't think it was his night. Turns out his team lost the ball game too. He's always on me to be careful about stuff, now I got the goods on him. It was funny to see. Even the dog was looking at him like it was too weird to believe.

Reminds me of the time I was warming up on rollers at the track. You do NOT want to be watching other guys out on the track if you are on rollers, because as your eyes follow them, so does the bike. Until it rolls off the side of the rollers.

I was amazed I didn't get hurt, but for a few days I put old t shirts on the corner of the desk next to the trainer. I imagined bashing my brains out.
When it happened my wife ran in to see if I was okay. Then the next day she told everyone she knew I'd fallen off a bike that wasn't moving.
Sheesh, can't a man be humiliated in private?

Yeah,,I was riding a thrift shop bike home,and the seat turned sideways,the post was loose in the tube.it was not a safety issue.I was close to home.But when I slapped a mtn schwinn sidewinder together after years of neglect,I wasn;t used to twist grip shifters and hammered it going up a hill and shifted myself out of this world almost I survived with a nasty pulled muscle.I balanced all my weight on one arm ,didn't go over but would a been better to tuck and roll rather then the one handed hand-stand OUCH!
