My new Toy
Soma DoubleCross 58cm, 105 running gear. I Just picked it up this afternoon and managed to get in about 15k before it started to snow. I havent ridden a bike with drop bars since the 70's so its gonna take a little getting used to, but it rides real nice and I can't wait for some better weather to go for a longer ride

I think Soma makes some very interesting frames and your DoubleCross is a nice one. Tasty build.
What kind of handlebars are those? Very shallow drops and flat ramps. I can't tell if they flare out like Midge bars.

Take your time and get reacquainted with drop bars -- you will not regret it!

A very tasty looking bike. Soma makes some reaelly sweet steel bikes. I would love to do a build with one of their road frames. That DX is very, very nice.

Don't mince words
Pretty bike!
Isn't it neat how a new bike can make you feel like your 10 years old again?

The bars are FSA Wing Pro Shallow drop. I've been wanting to do longer rides (70k+) and my flat bar hybrid (Kona Dr Dew) just wasn't cutting it at those distances. I was getting lots of shoulder, neck and hand pain. So I decided to get a second bike with a professional fitting and those are the bars he recomended

I looked at one of those last Fall...it's a great bike for this area. Have you considered fenders so you don't have to wait for better weather?

So another cyclist is lost to the dark side. Getting into the drops takes a bit of training. Obviously down the 15% mile long hills you will be down on them for the brakes but I still do a lot of riding on the hoods. The drops are for downhills- headwinds and when the 20 year olds start losing a bit of ground to me and I Think I can catch them.
I started just going into the drops till it got uncomfortable and then went back onto the hoods. 20 seconds was the max initially but now find the position comfortable if I want to use it.
Nice bike so get out and start practising on riding with your head between the knees and you will get used to it.
