Who says we don't get Summer in Upstate NY...

My oldest daughter soaking up some rays. It's a balmy 62 degrees F
with no wind.

Of course the prediction for tomorrow is an Ice Storm.

Oh, just to keep things bike related...we did not ride today, gotta work tonight.

It was about the same here today. Most of our deep snow has melted except for large piles left by the plows.

You gotta get that kid some new pants!:D

C.O.D. looks like a nice neighborhood I like the style of the houses.

I spent my summer today doing hill repeats on Rich's Dugway in Ellison Park. The trickle of snowmelt at the top was a rushing torrent towards the bottom. Made the climbs more interesting.

I did hills yesterday too. Here's downtown from the top of Cobb's Hill, the highest point within the city limits.

And another with some idiot blocking the view.

Guess I should have shaved.

I hear last year summer came on a Tuesday.

Tom Bombadil 03-03-08 09:02 PM

Sounds nice. We were in the upper 20s with wind bringing the windchills down into the mid-teens.

Another cold wave is heading our way, taking temps down on Thursday night to around 0, with highs on Fri & Sat predicted to be 18 & 16.

Upper 30s & lower 40s next week. Maybe it actually will warm up at some point.

Man, the attractiveness of the photo subjects in this thread sure took a downturn after such a good start. :)

Thank you, they're all 80+ yrs. old. My smart alec kids keep asking me
if I rode down here as a kid and watched them being built.

There are hardwood floors throughout, gumwood trim, & leaded glass windows in
many of them.

65 degrees here today. 40 miles. Here's one of the entrances to our neighborhood. The pond isn't all natural .... duh.

See? I knew I should have shaved.

Sunday was a beautiful day around here, too.

Eleven of us took advantage of the weather and did the 30 mile breakfast ride. It felt good to be out on the bike and not need every piece of winter gear I own:D

Might take more than just shaving. :)

Maybe some Bondo® and power tools?

I shaved my winter beard off this weekend...it's a real toss up as to whether I made the right choice or not.:p

You must be about as advanced on spring as we are. No pics from my end- But the Prunus blossom and the "Green" grass are about the same as over here.

Spring is coming- Just keep your eyes open or it will be gone again. And for you gardeners out there- Just planted the early potatoes and the tomato seeds. My first sign of me getting ready for spring.

What grass? Since the snow all melted at once in a torrential rain storm my front yard is sort of brown. No one wants to venture out there to see what it is.

Well Cranky I guess you must get use out of the good days when they come. Is it true you only have 2 seasons, 4th of July and winter ?

WalterMitty 03-04-08 01:01 PM

I spent a year in the heart of The Fingerlakes one summer.

Drove my VW bug up from Huntsville AL in a T-shirt and shorts in April. There was 4" of snow on the ground (from *that* day) and it was coming down fast.

It was a long time before "Summer" arrived...

Tom Bombadil 03-04-08 01:48 PM

If one would define "summer" to be when the average high is 75 or higher, then our "summer" begins on May 28th.

If it is 80+, then it runs from June 14 to Aug 27.

If you require nights to be warm, say an average of 60+, then we don't have summer. There will be days where the low is 70, but the highest average low here is 58. So even in July, if you are an early-riser, you will encounter a lot of mornings in the 50s.
