N + 1/2?

My LBS has a used unicycle for sale. I wonder how many 50+ers have ridden a unicycle, and how it changed their life.

I have not and will not be riding a unicycle. The LBS by where I work sells a lot of them, usually has about 10 different models in stock. Including mountain unicycles, for crazy people who ride them down high difficulty mountain trails.

Me either. At my age my bones break too easily and heal too slowly for me to take up something like a unicycle.

Forget what I said earlier about not riding one. Here's a video that I made recently:

I saw a guy riding a unicycle across the Golden Gate Bridge a couple weeks ago. Sure catches your attention!

The neighbor of a friend of mine is a 50+ unicyclist. He used to do big rides like RAGBRAI. One day, many years ago, he bought his son the unicycle he wanted for his birthday. The son never rode it.

So about, 15 years ago, he decides to try riding it. HE LOVES IT! He does centuries on the unicycle. Then he builds* unicycles and makes a nice little post-retirement cash from it.

True story.

Great story! I had no idea unicycles were so popular. I always associated them with the circus.

Tru, you probably didn't intend to be humorous there, but I'm laughing.

Seriously... I didn't realize there was another side to this either. The thought of riding a century on a unicycle is exhausting -- he must have amazingly strong core muscles.

So there we are out on a training run and just got to the hard bit of the 4th steep uphill and we hear a shout- "No brakes and Your on my line." No need for Stuart to yell for power and I was putting it in. Heard the whoosh as the Biker came down and we carried on up over the tricky bit of the uphill trail. Got to the top and Stuart was excited about something- So I asked him what he was talking about..... That Unicycle....... What Unicycle? Oh- well I missed it that time.

But Over that Summer we saw him a couple of times on the hills and spoke to him aswell. He had ridden a unicycle for years and had just got the off road version. Great on the flat and uphill was not too bad- But downhill and no brakes was causing him a problem.

If someone gave me one, I'd learn to ride it. I think they are cool.

All that bike riding last summer must have turned back the clock 5, er, 10, er, ah, 20, er, 25-30 years.

My voice went up an octave just watching the dude make jump landings while seated. A unicycle would definitely give you a stiff neck if you take viagra before the ride ... considering where your gonads will get lodged from unicycling.
