Over the past TWO YEARS, how many bikes have you acquired for yourself and/or immediate family?

All methods of acquisition count. Be it purchased new, used, free, built up, pulled from a dumpster, whatever. I'll assume no one here has stolen a bike.

Wow, it's a little scary to think about it this way. Since September 06, I have bought a hardtail mountain bike, pink mixte grocery bike, a Rivendell commuter, and an Xtracycle. Lordy, I must stop.

Thats the problem when you change sides- You don't have enough stock.

First one to see what the dark side was like- after a year you realise that the first bike is just to tell you what you should have got in the first place. Then you have to have a spare.

Only problem is that the LBS are talking about some killer deals coming up on some lighweight Hardtail Mountain bikes. Major problem is that I can't get much more in the bike shed without impinging on the bed space that will take up a lot of room-If I turn up with another bike.

Zero in the last 2 years, I already have 8. But a new steel custom cyclocross may be on the way.

For a guy who doesn't buy bikes, I'm on the 2nd new one in the last 1 year. It might even be 4 in 2 years but I've lost count.

I have 2 - a Trek hybrid and an Orbea Onix. I just started riding about a year and a half ago and at that time I wasn't sure I would need even one bike - I couldn't figure out why anyone would POSSIBLY want or need more than one. I now use my modified hybrid for commuting and around town, and just got my new road bike 3 months ago. I currently have an opportunity to buy a really cool used Orbea road bike - pretty rare frame. I need another bike at this point like I need a hole in the head, but much to my amazement I am strongly considering it. I must be nuts - I certainly don't NEED this bike, but there's just something about it that I love.

My name is Conurejade... and I am now a bike-aholic. Who knew??

Over the past 24 months, 5 bikes. Three given to me
by freinds to repair and to find foster homes for (which I did),
one curb-find which I've yet to sort out, and my New EZ Sport CX
recumbent. Oh yeh, two more on the horizon which will be keepers.

In the past two years, no new(or new to me) bikes. But then I'm a trike guy. So I spend my money on acc. and maintenance items. That has cost over $1000 in the past two years. When you're doing that who can afford a new ride?

That's easy - just sell or donate the first road bike - it served its purpose in showing you what you really wanted, which you now have. That way you make room for something new and get the bike acquisition chain started for someone else, who will soon be in a position to pass it along.

The original incarnation of "Uncle Duke" ('80 Fuji S-12S road bike) with mustache bars was in July '06.
Snidely ('92 Trek 970 rigid MTB frame) was converted from a mustache bar town bike/commuter to a real MTB in August '06.
"Norin Radd" ('06 Rockhopper Comp hardtail MTB) was bought in December '06.
The Trek 970 was renamed "Lugnut" and configured as a casual comfort/hybrid/path bike in June '07.
Uncle Duke was converted to drop bar and cyclocross tires briefly before settling into his current all around road/touring/dirt road/rain bike in September and October '07.
The Rockhopper was dismantled and converted to a hardtail MTB for my son in December '07
Lugnut was again converted to a real MTB with a few upgrades in December '07.
Bought a new Stumpjumper FSR Comp full suspension MTB in February '08

Some of the conversions were minor in effort but made significant changes to the bikes' personalities and capabilities. So the count is somewhere between 5 and 8 new bikes in the past 2 years.

Next up is to convert Lugnut into a dirt/road bike.

I purchased Lemond Reno's for the wife and I about 2 yrs. ago, but don't think we can count them, since prior to that we only had mtn.bikes ('98 models which we still have). So, does adding road bikes count if we didn't have that type of bike previously?

It's getting hard to remember 'em all now. Started three years ago with a Trek 3900 mtb (new). Probably about a year later, I began to N+1 via Craigslist. I bought a Trek 1500, a Univega (converted to single speed and sold because it was just too big), two beach cruisers, my Giant Cypress, and an old Fuji. Got the Orange Crush (Peugeot Desert Mojave) free from a friend. And before the Fuji and Peugeot, I bought my Roubaix.

I've pared down the herd, as well. I have only three bikes -- the Roubiax for the road, the Cypress for the errands, and the Orange Crush for the trail. So, in the last two years, I've added eight, and subtracted five, leaving me wide open for another rash of N+1.

Currently I enjoy thinking about a Portand, a Novara Element, and a Masi Speciale Commuter. Don't need a one. But then, what's that got to do with anything?

If you added any kind of bike, in any way, it counts.

Two for myself (the FG conversion and the "frigid rigid" MTB). Plus 3 complete "vintage" to flip. Plus two vintage frames. One of which (a Miyata) I may build either for my niece or myself. Plus rims, derailleurs and assorted other parts.

As I said recently in the C&V forum: I CAN QUIT ANYTIME I WANT, MAN!

I started a Bike of The Week poster in my cubicle at work. Not all bikes (or frames) get posted, and a couple have been posted more than once [after saddle, drivetrain, or handlebar changes]. The last one posted was Bike of the Week 29 so I guess I'm a fanatic.
I currently have 5 road bikes, one MTB, and one electric assist MTB in the stable and I'm trying to buy back another road bike. I sold a touring bike that had been out on loan last weekend.

I never thought about this until you posted this poll but it looks like I've been on a bike buying spree the last couple years
2007 Madone 5.0 WSD
2007 Trek 4300 WSD
2007 Electra Townie - this one wasn't for me. It's for my daughter
2008 Trek 520 - this one will join the others in the garage when it arrives is mid May
