Gordy Shields, 89 years young

One of our local cycling legends grabbed the section 1, page 1 central photo in today's San Diego Union Tribune.

He just set an age group 20km time trial record after several months of family and personal health problems. I'll bet he does even better next year. I have had the pleasure and honor of meeting Gordy on a couple of occasions, and he is a fine gentleman, a tireless advocate for bicycling, and an inspiration to the many of us youngsters who want to be like him when we grow up.

There is a bike bridge between National City & Chula Vista south of San Diego named after Gordy
