More Singletrack Fun
Several of us have been working on building new singletrack trails on a trail system in central Georgia, the Rock Hawk Effigy Trails. Yesterday, many of the workers set down the tools and tried the trails on our bikes. Lots of fun and some tough, technical sections. One of the main guys building the trails is a pro photographer who shoots many of the MTB races in Georgia. Here are his photos.
I love these he got of me picking my way around a tricky turn.

Far from ideal, actually. These are brand new trails that need to be ridden to pack the dirt down to make a smoother rolling surface. Right now they are so soft they seem to suck the energy from the wheels. But they are fun. We can see the potential for a good race course once we make a few adjustments, a little more clearing and add some more sections.

Only one thing for it- Get a bigger working party and ride the trails till they give in.

I guess you're healed up from your recent fall? Why do your gloves look like they have firecrackers across the knuckles? Is this extra protection against the saplings?

Those pictures show why professional photographers can make money taking pictures, while the rest of us just get snapshots. Great project for your group. And making the trails better by riding them seems like a no-brainer for a "work" party.

The firecrackers are merely the hideously gaudy pattern on the cheap Performance crochet gloves.

I would SOOOO crash and burn trying that, because it looks to be so much fun that I wouldn't be able to contain myself and would end up riding WAYYY beyond my capabilities!

We almost have buds on the trees....
Even though the temps are getting into the 60's during the day, we still go below freezing at night so its possible to still find ice in the shadows under the trees at midday.
BD...Ice is that stuff you folks put in drinks....................

There is a Full finger Mountain glove that has "Extra" protection along the fingers- for the saplings and brambles that will cut your hands to ribbons. The Summer weight ones are not a warm glove and they do restrict finger movement a bit but for the cost of them- they save a lot of pain- and blood- and swearing.
