How's this Chicago hood?
My daughter thinks she's found a studio with a 24 hr doorman
in the Edgewater/Loyola area. W. Devon Ave & N. Sheridan.
Sounds like what she needs (no funiture ).
It's a sublet that will only be available June, July and Aug.
From what little I know about the area, I think she did alright.
Any opinions before she signs the sublet?
Thanks

My info is out of date (as noted in an earlier thread). I remember this as a good neighborhood; nicer near the water, further west not as nice, but it's changed a lot.
This map allows you to look at crime stats by neighborhood:

I have not been over that way for a few years either but it was a nice area, I use to ride down from Northwestern which is farther N. In general the North and closer to the lake are the better neighborhoods and certainly around the big schools like Northwestern, Loyola and DePaul there is a lot of nightlife and people out all of the time. Should be fine.

I'm out in the western 'burbs, so I don't have direct knowledge of the area. However, my wife works for the State of Illinois in downtown Chicago. Many of her co-workers over the years have lived in and around that neighborhood. We've had many opportunities to visit up there. I think your daughter did quite well with the sublet for the summer. As in any big city (or even big suburb), she'll have to be careful, but I believe that's a pretty good area. Excellent access to the lake and downtown! And that silly northside ball park isn't too far away. (I'm a Sox fan).
I take it you will have to scrape up some furniture for the summer?

I live Touhy and Sheridan, just north of there. Its not a bad neighborhood, just not the best. Along the lake is normally fine and will be mostly Loyola students. A few incidents here and there, but really no worse than any college town/city. Devon is a very fun street with a lot of ethnic diversity. Great Indian food. She'll be right at the Loyola Red L stop. Its a well-lit attended station, and the Red will take you downtown or up to Evanston. Really had no problems with that area. Need any other info, just let me know.
