Another ride through farm country

These pictures are from a ride a couple of weeks ago. I love getting out on the mountain bike around our cottage in the Eastern townships of Quebec.

You can still see a little snow on the ski hill, Bromont, in the background. Bromont also has some of the best mountain biking trails in the province and it hosts international mountain biking events.

These are highland cattle raised on a farm not far from our house. These cattle spend their lives living outdoors eating nothing but grass and hay. They are raised completely organically. It's the only beef we eat now.

The road twists and turns and climbs steadily.

A quick, fast dip before another climb.

Nice looking place to ride.

The terrain looks a lot like that here in East Tennessee. I have lots of hills close by, but none as long as that grade in one of your pictures.

Looking good. Since I am from the farm, your title caught my attention. Some nice place for casual riding or pumping hard if you want to. The scenery is great too.

Great pictures.

I was expecting flat roads due to the farm country title

Farm country in the Eastern Townships is rolling and the fields required a heculean effort a century and a half ago to clear the land and remove the rocks. Stone walls abound. Most of the farming is dairy and beef cattle. It is not really suited to growing much more than hay and some grain, apple orchards and, increasingly, vineyards. Closer to Montreal the land is actually the bottom of the ancient Champlain Sea (Lake Camplain is the remnant) which was left behind by the retreating glaciers. It is very fertile land and good for all kinds of large scale crops.

What a lovely area and it looks like you've got the right bike for the job. I've been skiiing at Mt. St. Anne when it was -32F. Looks like things are warming up!

Well I wanted to jump in here so took the camera on my ride thru farm country. Whats known locally as the Oley Valley. I guess I still got it, as I managed to turn a few heads of the local gal population.

Further down the road we got a shot of the multi colored fields.

Looks like you have a few more weeks in the growing season than we do.
